How should indirect and semi-direct restorations be conditioned before adhesive cementation?
In our latest article you will learn about more about the current knowledge and clinical practices in surface conditioning of dental restorations.
Based on our survey results, a panel of 23 experts developed 23 practical recommendations for general and material-specific surface conditioning.

From scientific evidence to everyday dental practice. 🔬🦷

🦷 4-POINT BENDING TESTING

🔬 Determining the flexural strength of dental ceramics
4-point bending tests are used to evaluate the flexural strength and fracture behavior of dental materials, particularly dental ceramics.
⚙️ In this setup, the distance between the support rollers and loading rollers was specifically varied.
📏 20 mm support span
📐 10 mm loading span
💥 The specimens are subjected to controlled bending until fracture, allowing us to investigate their flexural strength and mechanical behavior.

⚙️ Defined roller spacing
💪 Controlled loading

Our latest study is now available in the Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials.👏

We investigated their influence on green-body mechanical properties and interfacial separation forces during the printing process. 🔬
Another step toward a better understanding of the mechanical behavior and performance of dental materials.🤓

🦷 TENSILE STRENGTH TESTING

In tensile testing, dental materials are subjected to a controlled tensile force to evaluate their mechanical strength and deformation behavior.

🧪 The test is mainly used for polymers, including 3D-printed dental materials.
🔗 The specimens have a characteristic bone shape to ensure controlled loading in the central testing region.
📈 Depending on the material, the specimens show different degrees of elongation and deformation before fracture.
💪 This allows us to determine properties such as:
▫️ Tensile strength
▫️ Elongation at break
▫️ Elastic deformation
▫️ Fracture behavior
