Master of Public Management - MPM

The MPM Program is a postgraduate mid-career 12-month full-time Master’s program taught in English.

Launched in April 1999, it was the first of its kind in Germany. The program features a series of preparatory workshops, an introductory German language course, a course in professional and academic communication, several extracurricular activities, as well as a study tour.

Today, we wanted to officially share more information about the pause of the MPM program. By now, it is clear that the program will not be continued in its original form but we look forward to new projects, using the network and expertise we built over the last 24 years running the program. We happily watched the class of 2023 graduate from the Master of Public Management on 17 October 2023 🥳 During a festive ceremony on Campus Griebnitzsee and accompanied by a motivating and insightful key note speech from our alumna Kave Bulambo, our students received their degree documents and celebrated their achievements. Now, we look forward to follow them taking their next steps in their careers and wish them all the best in the world and all the happiness!

Last week, 15 alumni traveled to Potsdam from 12 different countries to take part in our 2022 International Germany Alumni Seminar “The Future of Education - Overcoming educational inequality through innovation” organized in cooperation with the DAAD. The practice- and participant-oriented seminar included workshops, lectures, peer-learning sessions and experiences in Agumented and Virtual Reality :)

Now our participants have joined over 2,500 international learning professionals from around the world at the Online Educa Berlin Conference, the 28th annual global, cross-sector conference and exhibition on digital learning and training.

Thank you to the DAAD, our speakers and lecturers, and most of all our participants for taking part in the seminar and making it an engaging, fun, and educational experience for everyone!

Congratulations MPM class of 2021-2022🎉

We were so proud to celebrate your graduation from the MPM program on October 18th, 2022. We are all impressed by the tremendous strength, diligence, solidarity, and brilliance you showed this year, both inside and outside the classroom. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

Thank you also to the students, friends, family, staff, and professors who joined us both in person and online to celebrate and honor our graduates!

MPM ALUMNI EVENT - SAVE THE DATE!

Dear MPM Alumni and especially those who still live in the Berlin-Brandenburg area,

As you might already know, we have the honor to organize a DAAD Alumni Seminar this November. As part of that, 16 (mostly MPM) Alumni will come back to the University of Potsdam. Of course, we do not want to miss this opportunity and are also planning a social event to gather again with friends and (former) colleagues of the program as well as you, the alumni who are still in Berlin/Potsdam or the area.

The event will take place 21 November 2022 at 6pm. Details will follow soon but we would ask you to save the date already and let us know at [email protected] if you will be joining. We look forward to seeing you (again)!

Most summer semester courses in the MPM have started and you can read about our offers this year down below! Amongst them is one of our classics, "Public Sector Reform" with Prof. Dr. Geert Bouckaert - we have been offering this course since the very beginning and it's definitely a students-favourite. But the other courses add just as great to our curriculum and we are happy to be able to provide them again in presence on Campus Griebnitzsee.

Yesterday, the summer semester at the University of Potsdam officially started and for the first time in what feels like decades, all courses were conducted in presence! MPM students started off with the thesis colloquium, which also marks the beginning of their thesis process! The pictures hopefully provide some insights into this exciting phase (and especially the light at the end of the tunnel) from recent years :) Together with the vibrant atmosphere on Campus Griebnitzsee when classrooms and the mensa were full of students again and the nice weather, we hope everyone had a good start into summer semester 2022!

Maybe you even studied in the MPM program and would be happy to return to Campus Griebnitzsee and continue learning at the University of Potsdam? Then your time has come! We are happy to announce our International Alumni Seminar, which will take place from 15th to 26th November 2022 in Potsdam and Berlin and is funded by DAAD and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation (BMZ). We will conduct a 5 day seminar under the topic "The future of education - overcoming educational inequality through innovation" and visit THE cross-sector conference in that subject area "Online Educa Berlin 2022" afterwards. Costs vor travel allowances, visa applications, entry to the conference and accommodation will be covered - you just need to apply and make your way here! One week ago today, our DAAD-Alumni Seminar 2021 on "Risk Management - Governing Uncertainty in a Complex World" came to an end.
We would like to thank all participants for the 8 days full of exchange and growth and present the entry of the last day.

Diary Entry For 24th November 2021 -Self Reflection & Knowledge transfer sessions (By Aya Ismail)

What Inspired me today? (I mean, what didn't?! :D )

why do you need "self aware"? >> It is a trial to step back and see what one truly thinks about and be aware of the blind spots of that specific topic(s).

The test we all took part in was very surprising, each one of us had an interesting outcome from the results, for example some of us didn't think they will be more of a "distance" person than a "closeness" person and so one. All of us were different and unique! which lead to the question "are my results bad or good?!"
There is no "good" or "bad" results, it is just "different" which allows for more integration and allows different set of skills on one team which strengthens the team structure and set of solutions.

What I would like to share?

It seems that the Hijack game has left a lasting impression in each one of us; some of us appreciated more what it is like to be a politicians (hence, never wanting to be one =D ) and some of us had to negotiate an idea that they otherwise would never entertain, and so on, it was a day full of emotions and new experiences.

This last meeting allowed us to look back on all the days we spent together learning and sharing experience. I was very excited about all the different and personalized ideas all the colleagues had about the next steps on how to spread the knowledge we learned. I'd highly recommend reading each on carefully and enjoy the diversity!

Another very important aspect that we all agreed about is the efforts and skills of our dear moderatos! they made this course bettered the quality of this course through facilitating learning and providing friendly and fruitful environment, we all thank you all =)
