Ever found yourself happily wandering through a novel, or pausing over a line and thinking, wait… what does that actually mean? If that sounds familiar, Annotating Literature is starting up again and we’d really love to have you join us.

In our student workgroups, we dive into texts together, read closely, discuss ideas and write our own annotations to make sense of tricky or confusing passages. It’s basically like building our own mini scholarly editions (think Arden Shakespeare or Oxford World’s Classics), just in a much more collaborative, low-pressure way.
This semester you can join Annotating Poetry, Annotating Prose (or both!) and along the way you’ll get better at research and writing while also understanding the texts on a deeper level. Also, your annotations won’t just disappear into a folder, as they’ll actually be published on our new website under your name: https://beta.annotating-literature.org/

Whether you need credits or just feel like trying something new, we’d love to have you in our groups. We start May 5 (Poetry, 2–4pm) and May 6 (Prose, 4–6pm) in Brechtbau Room 465. If you have questions, just email [email protected]. We’d be happy to hear from you!

Love getting lost in literature? Or maybe you enjoy figuring out what those puzzling lines really mean? Annotating Literature is starting up again, and we’d love to have you on board! In our student workgroups: we read, discuss and write our own explanatory annotations to help others make sense of challenging or confusing passages. Think of it as building our own scholarly mini-Arden Shakespeare or Oxford World’s Classics, one note at a time.

This semester, you can join one (or both!) of our groups: Annotating Poetry and Charles Dickens’ "The Chimes". By working collaboratively, you’ll sharpen your research and writing skills while deepening your understanding of the annotated material.
The best part? Your finished annotations will be published on our website: http://www.annotating-literature.org/annotations/

Whether you’re after credits or just curious to try something new, you’re very welcome to join. Our weekly sessions start on November 7 (Dickens) and November 11 (Poetry).
Got any questions? Send us an email at [email protected] or check out https://www.annotating-literature.org/.

Ready to dive into literature like never before?
A new semester of Annotating Literature is starting—and you’re invited to join!
In our all-student, pressure-free workgroups, we tackle the shortage of high-quality annotations – explanations and interpretations like those you’d find in scholarly editions like the Arden Shakespeare or Oxford World’s Classics – by writing our own. In our two workgroups (Annotating Poetry and Charles Dickens’ The Chimes), you will learn how to actively engage with difficult, obscure or confusing passages from literary texts of all genres and from all periods. Working together as a team, we help each other gain a deep and detailed understanding of the material we annotate. The Annotating Literature Project allows for academic growth by improving and sharpening your academic research and writing skills. The best part? Once finished and reviewed, your annotations are published under your name on our website [http://www.annotating-literature.org/annotations/]!

Whether for fun or for credit, everyone’s welcome to join one or both of our workgroups. The first sessions start on May 7th (Poetry) and May 8th (Dickens).
Interested? Just send us an email ([email protected]) or visit our webpage (https://www.annotating-literature.org/) for more information.

Another semester, another chance to start annotating!
This semester we're offering a group annotating Charles Dickens' "The Chimes" and another one annotating different poems. If you want to earn credits for your Schlüsselqualifikation (professional skills) or workgroup credits, we offer even more than that. In our peer-groups you're able to learn and improve a variety of skills, such as your spoken and written English. The best part: It's pressure free. Of course at some point you might want to finish up your annotations, but you may take as long as you'd like.
If you have any questions feel free to visit our website at annotating-literature.org or send us a quick email to annotating-literature[at]es.uni-tuebingen.de

Join the peer learning project Annotating Literature!
The project’s aim is to write annotations, i.e. explanations and interpretations like the ones you can find in scholarly editions (such as the Shakespeare Arden Edition or Oxford World Classics). In the groups, you will learn how to tackle difficult or puzzling passages from literary texts of all genres and from all periods. As we all work on the texts together in our all-student, pressure-free workgroups, there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get to know the text you are annotating really well! The Annotating Literature Project therefore is the perfect opportunity to practice your academic writing skills as well as your English in general. As a bonus, the annotations are published under your name on our website [http://www.annotating-literature.org/annotations/] as soon as they are finished and reviewed! If you are interested in joining one or more of these groups, simply send an email to [email protected].

Join our peer groups!
This term in a revised format: The peer group meetings will consist of three block sessions and some shorter meetings throughout the term. This gives you additional time to learn about the theory of annotation, academic writing and of course a chance to start writing in a motivating setting.

Connotations has started its series of articles on annotation. Read the introductory remarks by Professors Bauer and Zirker over at their website.

What is our understanding of annotations, of what kind they are and how they are attached to texts, and how do we understand texts through or by means of annotations, their specific hermeneutic function.
