The establishment and development of the faculty of pharmacy, Alexandria University
- The study of pharmacy began in the faculty of medicine Farouk I University at Alexandria in the academic year 1947.
- The study continued at the Faculty of Medicine until a special building for pharmacy was established and studies started in August 1st 1956 in Azarita nearby faculty of medicine.

At that time the school offered four years pharmacy program including pre-pharmacy.
- The degree offered after an obligatory period of training in pharmacies was a Bachelor degree of pharmacy and pharmaceutical chemistry.
- The school also offered diplomas of food analysis, drugs preparation as well as Master's and Doctoral degrees.
- In November 1956 law No.345 stated transferring pharmacy school to an independent faculty among the faculties of the University of Alexandria; a new curriculum has been designed for the faculty.
- New requirement were introduced to commensurate with the scientific program in pharmaceutical industry at the global level accordingly
- Years of study became five years including pre-pharmacy starting from January 1964.
- In August 1970 the curriculum stated granting Bachelors degree in pharmaceutical sciences instead of pharmacy and pharmaceutical chemistry. Master and PhD degrees were also in pharmaceutical sciences.
- The faculty also offered diplomas in the seven departments specialties':
- The pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacognosy, pharmacology which is now subdivided into toxicology and biochemistry, pharmaceutical analytical chemistry, industrial pharmacy, and pharmaceutical microbiology.
- Old and New buildings of faculty of pharmacy Alexandria University
- In line with the National policy of expansion in the high education, the number of students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Alexandria, has increased more than five times than the past.
- Due to this large increase and the inability of the labs and lecture halls of the old building to accommodate this increase, the thought of a new building for the Faculty evolved and became a must.
- In the early 1990s this idea was put into effect.
- Today, the dream has become reality and the new faculty building became a towering fortress and worthy of being one of the greatest buildings of the Faculties of Pharmacy, at the Arab Republic of Egypt level.
- The faculty members and the graduates are proud that they have such a magnificent edifice, which is renowned for a renaissance of pharmacy and medicine in Egypt.
- The establishment of this new building coincided with celebrating its golden anniversary and graduation of the batch number 50 from the Faculty.
- Construction costs of more than 25 million pounds depleted from the national budget, to reflect honorably on all of us and make us proud of.
- The new building with its highly equipped labs and its lecture rooms that are supplied - with the latest audio and video means improves the educational level in the faculty through accommodating a greater number of students in the equipped labs to meet their needs as well as increasing the number of hours of practical training. This adds a lot to the pharmacy students by making them capable of facing the scientific reality in the future and subsequently facilitate their role in their future practical life.
- The new building consists of eight floors in addition to the ground floor served by four modern elevators. Previously, students would not find a place for gathering except on the staff members cars and in the roads. In front of the building, there is a parking for the faculty members that can accommodate about 30 cars.
