Preparing Nursing Interns for the Reality of Professional Practice
The Nursing Administration Department, Faculty of Nursing, successfully conducted an inspiring professional development workshop entitled:
🌟 “Beyond Survival – Thrive… Not Survive”
📅 22 August 2026
⏰ 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
👩⚕️ 19 Nursing Interns
The workshop was held under the patronage of Prof. Maha Adel, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, and under the supervision of Prof. Yaldez Zeineldin, Acting Head of the Nursing Administration Department. Valuable institutional support was also provided by Prof. Mona Mayhob, Vice Dean for Teaching & Learning, reflecting the Faculty’s commitment to supporting students’ professional development and readiness for practice.
💡 The workshop focused on helping nursing interns navigate the important transition from student life to professional practice and preparing them for the realities, responsibilities, and challenges of the residency year.
The learning journey explored four interconnected dimensions:
🔹 Professional Values → IDENTITY
Building a strong professional identity and understanding the values that shape nursing practice.
🔹 Communication Styles → CONNECTION
Developing effective communication and meaningful professional relationships.
🔹 Emotional Intelligence → SELF-AWARENESS
Understanding emotions, managing responses, and developing greater self-awareness.
🔹 Leadership Skills → INFLUENCE
Building confidence, taking initiative, and developing the ability to positively influence others.
✨ The workshop adopted an interactive, participant-centred approach, featuring reflective discussions, experiential activities, video-based learning, interactive puzzles, online self-assessments, group activities, and practical workplace scenarios.
Participants also explored valuable “Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started” insights related to professional development, initiative, lifelong learning, teamwork, professional appearance, adaptability, and personal branding.
💙 The workshop created a supportive space where nursing interns could reflect, connect, build self-awareness, strengthen their professional skills, and prepare with greater confidence for their residency journey.
🌟 The message was clear:
Residency is not just a year to survive — it is an opportunity to grow, adapt, influence, and thrive.
The Faculty of Nursing remains committed to initiatives that go beyond academic preparation, empowering future nurses with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and professional mindset needed to succeed in an ever-changing healthcare environment.
👏 Special appreciation and gratitude to everyone who contributed to the successful organization and implementation of this meaningful workshop.
