Tissue culture generally refers to the growth of cells from a tissue from a multicellular organism in vitro. These cells may be cells isolated from a donor organism, "primary cells", or an immortalized cell line. The cells are bathed in a culture medium, which contains essential nutrients and energy sources necessary for the cells' survival.
Tissue culture lab in MASRI started preparation, training of crew and working under supervision of the Italian tissue culture expert SilviaPorta 1996.

Stem cell therapy, also known as regenerative medicine, promotes the repair response of diseased, dysfunctional or injured tissue using stem cells or their derivatives. It is the next chapter in organ transplantation and uses cells instead of donor organs, which are limited in supply.
Stem cells represent novel approach in regenerative medicine with great number of application. This allows cooperation with different departments in faculty of medicine and other medical related faculties. We isolate stem cells from bone marrow of animals supplied by MASRI animal house. As we isolate umbilical cord stem cells in cooperation with obstetritics and gynecology department. Also, it can be isolated from periodontal sheath supplied by faculty of dentistry. Stem cells can be injected with or without differentiation. Differention to different tissues (hepatic, nerve, osteoblast, cartilage, cardiac) by addition of different types of growth factors. With the help of MASRI molecular biology department, we study the effect of injected stem cells on gene expression in the target organ.
