“I once looked at my middle school SHG teacher eyebrows and said to myself with no context whatsoever, am going to write a short story about that one day, this very non-inspiring inspiration was the Saudi school culture in a nutshell for me. Years later, I sat in front of my laptop rummaging for any redeeming ideas in my exhausted post lockdown mind.Luckily, at the end of the pit hole that is my brain, the magnificent brows rose again.” - Sarah Ashraf

“A Minute’s Wait is a story that explores love and grief pushed to haunting levels of extreme. It is told from the perspective of Toby McGee, a chauffeur who goes for a job interview for Mrs. Atten, a wealthy woman who wants to hire him for her daughter. As Toby waits for the daughter to arrive, he discovers that she had died and Mrs. Atten has been stuck believing that it is always 4:59, one minute before her daughter is expected to arrive.”
“It was an absolute joy attending these workshops. It was completely positive environment where making mistakes was accepted and encouraged. I felt no pressure or shame presenting my work in this space. Everyone there gave such helpful, insightful, and creative feedback that truly made my piece become what it is. It is both rare and beautiful to be surrounded (even virtually) by people who share the same passion for writing. I was constantly surprised by the amount and diversity of talent that was in these workshops. Everyone’s story was an experience all its own and I took great pleasure reading every one of them. I am very much looking forward to attending next year.” - The winner of TAC Season 3, Farida ElSirgany
