The Graphic Design Program at the American University in Cairo is happy to invites you to attend the opening of the graduation exhibition for the Fall 2020, Spring 2021, and Fall 2021 semesters on February 17, 2022 at 6 PM at the Tahrir Cultural Center in downtown.

The exhibition includes a group of graduation projects that highlight urgent topics related to social issues, healthcare and sustainability.

This is a kind reminder to invite you all to the conference and inauguration of the Paul Rand retrospective at AUC New Cairo campus, next Thursday, November 4th (Tomorrow).
The Talks will be at the Malak Gabr Theater 1;30-4;30pm.
Speakers and topics listed below:
Steff Geissbühler who will talk on ‘Versatility of the Symbol’.

Mahamad Khalil who will talk on ‘Ideas about Ideas’

Oen Hammonds who will talk on ‘A Designer’s Dilemma’.

Jr Neville Songwe, who will be discussing ‘The Visual Cultural Identity’.

Each speaker will be followed by a facilitated expert panel discussion on the topic, including audience participation.

The Exhibition inauguration at the Sharjah Gallery 5pm-8pm.
The co-curator Daniel lewandowski will be available for gallery tour on the opening night.
The exhibition will run till November 25th. Gallery hours are 9am-4:30pm, daily except on holidays.

Paul Rand: Thoughts/Processes is on the lookout for a group of eager design students and small business entrepreneurs to take part in the ’s immersive branding and packaging workshop.

Held in partnership with Fair Trade Egypt, an NGO dedicated to supporting Egyptian artisans, talented youth will focus on challenges within the world of branding and packaging through facilitated teams. The workshop will ask students to conduct research, analysis, ideation, and prototyping. Participants will be handpicked by a group of experts, and will be able to explore new ideas via concentrated workshops that will draw from an ethnocultural point of view.

The Symposium and Design Sprint are supported by grants from the U.S Embassy in Cairo and the American University in Cairo. The design sprint is also sponsored by Art in Reverb Creative Collaborative.

Held in AUC - Tahrir Cultural Center in the Oriental Hall on November 5th and 6th, the Design Sprint represents a weekend brimming with opportunity to expand participants’ understanding of their craft. Applications are now open, and will close on October 27th.

We are excited to announce the Linking Cultures virtual lecture series “students for students”

Linking Cultures is a long term collaboration between five different regional and international design schools:
- AUC , the American University in Cairo
- AUB, the American University of Beirut
- ESAV École Supérieure des Arts Visuels, Marrakech
- the Berlin University of the Arts
- the Zurich University of the Arts

The upcoming lecture series “Students for Students” will host students of the five schools to present their projects.

Presentations will take place every Tuesday at 5PM Cairo time from Oct 19 to Nov 16, 2021.

We are excited the announce the second AUC design talk by Ishraq Zraikat “ From traditional craft to Mode of Design: Why designers need to expand their skills and knowledge laterally to push the boundaries of design.
On Tuesday 20. April at 8:30 pm Cairo time.
Ishraq is a Jordanian textile artist, weaver, and wool researcher. Her research-based practice bridges various design disciplines through a fundamental appreciation and craft of fiber/ textile media. Her work strives to unveil the sophistication of traditional handcraft- not through historicism- but as part of an affective economy that continues to be driven by everyday necessity, human innovation, and our eternal pursuit for beauty.
