Studying Sustainable Development has never been more urgent considering today's complex challenges in this field.

Coordinated by the Center for Applied Research on the Environment and Sustainability - CARES at AUC The American University in Cairo, the Graduate Program in Sustainable Development has led the way as the first degree of its kind in the MENA region since 2013. For four years in a row, Eduniversal has ranked it as the top Masters in Africa with a focus on sustainability and green technologies.

Students are provided with a comprehensive and in-depth study of sustainability, covering the three dimensions of economy, environment and society. Throughout the duration of their study, they are engaged in community projects, research activities and international initiatives and are enabled to find ways to reduce pressure on the local environment and support the creation of sustainable communities.

You can choose between a two-year Masters of Science - with many fellowship opportunities! - or a one-year Graduate Diploma depending on your needs and circumstances.

One of the perks of being a Sustainable Development Program Alumnus is their continued involvement in many different capacities with the Center for Applied Research on the Environment and Sustainability - CARES and AUC The American University in Cairo.

We are so proud of our very own Diploma alum Tarek Abdel Raouf '22 who is now CARES' Senior Projects Officer. He is tackling among many things Carbon Credits, and organized and moderated a great panel on their potential in Egypt last week.

Earlier this week, our Senior Projects Officer, Tarek Abdelraouf, organized and moderated a Carbon Credits Center panel on the Carbon Credits market and its potential in Egypt.

The AUC Panelists included Dr. Abeer Elshennawy, Professor of Economics, and Dr. Yasmine Abdelmaksoud, CARES Technical Manager, who was accompanied by Ms. Thoraya Seada, Director of the Carbon Footprint Center, and Dr. Hesham Eissa, Board Member of D-Carbon who provided their insight and knowledge on the role played by Carbon Credits in mitigating climate change and transitioning to a more sustainable economy.

Sustainable Development Program Coordinator Maïssa Khattab and Center for Applied Research on the Environment and Sustainability - CARES Operations Manager Muhammad Khaled were recently featured in ESG Mena's important piece highlighting the ever-growing importance of educating the new generation in solutions-based sustainable development, such as with our Graduate Program in Sustainable Development and Professional Diploma in Water-Food-Energy Technologies coordinated by Center for Applied Research on the Environment and Sustainability - CARES at AUC The American University in Cairo.

Our graduate program has pioneered Education for Sustainable Development in the Middle East and North Africa by launching in 2013 the first multidisciplinary program of its kind in the region. It is no surprise that the MSc. in Sustainable Development with a concentration in Green Technologies has been awarded four years in a row (!) the top spot by Eduniversal as Best Masters in Africa in the Energy & Natural Resources category.
