The Socio-computing department was founded in 1994 under the title of Social Science Computing. Socio-computing is at the intersection between the social sciences, complexity sciences, and computational sciences. Despite being newly established, the Socio-computing department is the first of its kind in Egypt and the only one in the Arab world. It has no equivalent departments except in some top-r

anked universities in North America and Europe. The Socio-computing department adopts a number of unique academic values such as innovation, creativity, and targeting excellence. In addition to keeping pace with the international trends in research that take into account the phenomenon of globalization and the profound and complex mental and social changes that are taking place now. The department strives against the traditional academic discourse based on the centrality of expression laws, as well as the unicity of the social interaction laws. It strives for a new discourse based on the concepts of epistemological anarchy, de-centrality of control, emergence, adaptability, and evolution, the non-hierarchical networking patterns, complexity, and chaos.
