الصورة دي اتصورناها بعد ما قدمنا مشروعنا في المسابقة الدولية للهندسة الوراثية iGEM..
انهارده اتفاجئنا إنها على الصفحة الرئيسية لـiGEM 2021! مشاركتنا في iGEM كانت أحسن حاجة حصلت خلال سنين الجامعة.. وانهارده لما المسابقة استخدموا صورتنا ده خلانا نفكتر ده!

We don't remember sharing this picture. It was taken just after we finished our presentation! Today, it's on main page! Seeing this made us so nostalgic and happy!

This year 3 teams from Africa are competing in iGEM.
The American University in Cairo (AUC) for the first time, the Armed Forces College of Medicine (AFCM) for the fourth year in a raw.. and Ashesi University from Ghana.

We wish you all gold 🏅, and endless number of nominations and awards..

عميد ووكلاء كلية العلوم يسلمون فريقنا درع الكلية.. التكريم ده دافع لينا عشان الخطوات الجاية.. شكرًا لإدارة الكلية على دعمهم وعلى تكريمهم.
وشكرًا لدكتور ميمونة كرد على دعمها وتشجيعها الدائم للفريق.

We are so happy and honored with the recognition we received from our faculty. This made us more enthusiastic for the next phase!

تخيل إنك تروح وتيجي من القاهرة لإسكندرية خمس مرات! دي المسافة اللي طارق احتاج يتحركها رايح جاي على المطار عشان يخلص إجراءات الجمارك للـkits والـreagents اللي كنا بنستخدمها في المعمل.

احنا كنا مش بس بنحتاج نروح للمطار.. كنا كمان بنروح لشركات الشحن ولعدد من الجهات الحكومية.
ده كان بياخد جهد ووقت كتير جدًا.. أحيانًا أكتر من قيمة المنتجات اللي بتوصلنا!

مشكلة تانية كانت الوقت اللي بنحتاجه عشان نستلم المنتجات اللي بنكسبها أو بنطلبها.. يمكن ده كان أوضح ما يكون في حالة الروبوت.. احنا فضلنا حوالي ٥ شهور قبل ما نستلمه!!

الحقيقة إنه برغم كل ده فاحنا ممتنين لكل اللي ساعد في إننا نستلم المنتجات.. خصوصًا اللي كان لازم نستلمها بسرعة عشان ظروف التخزين..
شكرًا لكل حد في الكلية ساعد في الورق و على رأسهم د. ميمونة كرد.
شكر خاص لد. مي البطران، عضو البرلمان ووكيل لجنة تكنولوجيا المعلومات على مساعدتها اللي كانت مهمة جدًا عشان الروبوت وعشان kits تانية.

طبعًا مش محتاجين نقول إن التعب ده كله كان بيهون لما نلاقي شركة الشحن بتتصل عشان نستلم الحاجة!

The distance traveled by Tarek on his way to and from the airport is more than 5 times the distance between Cairo and Alexandria!

He with some help from other members, went to the airport, shipping companies, and many governmental agencies dozens of times to work on customs clearance and brokerage of the shipments (such as kits, reagents, the robot..etc) that we received,

Actually, the effort, time, and money we spent to get some products exceeded the value of the products!

Other than the effort we had to put into this, it took us months (literally.. months) to get some products!

Despite all of that, we managed to get some of those products on time.. and want to thank everyone who helped with that. Thanks to the Faculty of Science dean, everyone working in his office, and for Dr. Maimona Kord for helping with the documents and letter for the different agencies.

Special thanks to Dr. Mai El-Batran, the parliament member, whom help was so crucial to get the robot, as well as some other products.

Ah.. obviously, we love the moments when after all of thoses efforts, we get a call from the shipping company.

التقى د. محمد عثمان الخشت - رئيس جامعة القاهرة - بفريقنا. وقام بتكريم أعضاء الفريق ومشرفيه ومنحنا ميدالية الجامعة.

After being awarded a Bronze from iGEM panel in Boston, we were honored to receive the Cairo University medal from dr Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, the president of Cairo University جامعة القاهرة.

Finally, our long journey came to an end, and it is a happy ending. We were awarded a bronze medal.

Big thanks to every bit of help we got from our professors and friends.
