Krebs cycle, also known as the citric acid cycle, is the main metabolic pathway occurring in mitochondria, where acetyl-CoA is oxidized to produce energy. During the cycle, high-energy particles such as NADH, FADH2 and GTP are generated, which are used in the electron transport chain to produce ATP. CO2 is also released as a waste product and plays a critical role in cellular respiration.
