بدأت الدراسة بكلية الطب عام 1962 كفرع لجامعة القاهرة ثم أنشئت جامعة شرق الدلتا بالقانون رقم 49 لسنة 1972 وتم تعديل المسمى الى جامعة المنصورة عام 1973، وتعتبر الجامعة السادسة من حيث النشأة بين جامعات الجمهورية ويشغل الحرم الجامعي مساحة 300 فدان تقريبا من ناحية الجنوب الغربي لمدينة المنصورة ويضم:
كليات الطب – طب الأسنان – الصيدلة – الهندسة – الزراعة – التجارة – الحقوق – العلوم – التربية – التربية
النوعية - الآداب - الحاسبات والمعلومات – التمريض – الطب البيطري – التربية الرياضية - التربية للطفولة المبكرة - السياحة والفنادق - الفنون الجميلة وبعض الوحدات الخدمية كالإدارة العامة لرعاية الطلاب بملاعبها ومنشآتها وللمدن الجامعية والأخرى للطالبات ومعظم الوحدات ذات الطابع الخاص التي تخدم الجامعة والمجتمع، هذا بالإضافة إلى المساحات التي تشغلها كليات الجامعة الواقعة خارج نطاق الجامعة ككلية التربية للطفولة المبكرة التي تقع بشارع أحمد ماهر وكليه التربية النوعية بالمنصورة وفرعيها بمدينتي ميت غمر ومنية النصر وكلية السياحة والفنادق.
وهناك مجمعاً ضخماً للخدمات الطلابية بالحرم الجامعي للطلاب ونادي اجتماعي ومكتبة ثقافية، ومطبخاً حديثاً للعاملين وأعضاء هيئة التدريس بالجامعة وكذلك مستشفى حديثا للطلاب.

The faculty of medicine was founded in 1962 as a branch of Cairo University. In 1972, a presidential decree (article number 49 in the constitution) announced the establishment of the University under the name "East Delta University”. Mansoura University is the sixth university to be founded in Egypt. Its campus occupies an area of approximately 300 acres from the southwest side of Mansoura. It includes the following faculties:
Faculties of Medicine - Dentistry - Pharmacy - Engineering - Agriculture - Commerce - Law - Science - Education - Specific Education - Arts - Computers and Information - Nursing - Veterinary Medicine - Physical Education - Early Childhood Education - Tourism and Hotels - Fine Arts. as well as other student services centers like "The Administration of the students' General Affairs", the dormitories, and other specializing units that serve inside and outside the campus simultaneously. This is in addition to the premises occupied by the university off campus faculties such as:

The Faculty of Specific Education in Mansoura and its two branches in Mit Ghamr and Minyet El-Nasr
