🎬 Last Friday was a day full of emotion as it was time to say goodbye to our students. The programme was as intensive as always with its mix of lectures, seminars, visits and practical work (225 hours in all, not counting the group work, exam revision ...), but above all, it was a truly wonderful human experience!

We hadn't realised just how much we had all missed the face-to-face format of the ... Motivated students, enthusiastic lecturers, a director "steady at the helm" and the ESI team constantly in the starting blocks to ensure the smooth daily running of the sessions. We wish our 58 participants all the best in their future careers and look forward to seeing many of you again within the community

Nothing left to say 🙌

After 2 years on-line, the 18 participants and 55 faculty members of 2023 all agreed that it felt so good to be back to a face-to-face school!

Indeed, participating in ESIPAP does not only mean attending 204 hours of classes, visits, and labs at CERN, LPSC Grenoble and Institut Laue-Langevin - ILL spread over 8 weeks. It also means moments of sharing and deepening scientific knowledge and culture, moments of relaxation over a coffee, a meal, a drink, a game of ping-pong, but also and above all, meeting new people and making connections that will last a lifetime.

So, to all future participants of ESIPAP, we look forward to meeting you next year 👋

Abstract:

Sometimes taking a fresh look at an issue can help find new solutions.

This is the idea underlying a Challenge Based Innovation (CBI) event organised by I.FAST project (Innovation Fostering in Accelerator Science and Technology) funded by the European Union.

For the I.FAST CBI (hereafter called the challenge), 24 students from different countries spend ten days at ESI in Archamps near Geneva exploring ways in which accelerators and related technologies could be used to meet a societal challenge related to one of the Horizon Europe missions. The choice for the 2022 and 2023 challenges is “Accelerators for the environment”. These students form strongly multidisciplinary teams with students coming from law, communication, environmental studies and, of course, physics and engineering. The attend seminars by experts in the field and they working together to develop an innovative way to address the challenge using accelerators. At the end of the ten days, they are invited to spend a day at CERN and present their work in front of a jury.

Biographies:

Nicolas Delerue has obtained his PhD thesis in Mathematical Physics and Particle Physics with honors at University Mediterranee (CPPM) on topic related to the electron-proton collider HERA (DESY) in Hamburg. Nicolas is a Fellow of the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization at KEK (Tsukuba, Japan, 2002—2004) and lectured at Oxford University till 2010. Since then, he is senior beam physicist in Orsay, Laboratoire de l'Accélérateur Linéaire (LAL). In parallel to his duty, he is coordinating the Challenge Based Innovation (CBI) "Accelerators for the Environment" for the Innovation Fostering in Accelerator Science and Technology (I.FAST) Horizon 2020 (Research Innovation Action) program.

Ils ont signé ! 💪

L’ Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), l’Institut Scientifique Européen ( ESI Archamps ) et le Syndicat Mixte d’Aménagement du Genevois (SMAG), structure juridique porteuse d’ ArchParc signent une convention tripartite de partenariat qui vient officialiser des années de collaborations passées et à venir en matière d’ thématiques .

La présence de l’Université Grenoble-Alpes (UGA) au by Archparc remonte à 2014 avec la co-organisation d’une première école d’été dénommée BioHealth Computing. Depuis, l’ESI et l’UGA, et plus particulièrement l’UFR de Pharmacie, ont développé et mis en œuvre à ArchParc toute une série d’écoles thématiques innovantes, ouvertes à l’ , intégrées dans des offres de formation diplômantes ou non.

La signature de cette convention va permettre de poursuivre le développement de la thématique de la santé avec l’UFR de Pharmacie. Il s’agit également d’accompagner le développement des activités internationales de la Faculté Humanités, Santé, Sport, Sociétés, notamment à travers les écoles thématiques des programmes interdisciplinaires de la Graduate School@UGA (GS@UGA).

Trois nouvelles écoles sont d’ores et déjà programmées sur la nutrition, le « bien vivre - bien vieillir » et la physique médicale. Il s’agit également de renforcer l’ancrage territorial de l’action UGA-ESI, notamment en co-construisant des offres de formation impliquant les acteurs économiques du bassin.

Happy anniversary to us! 🥳

To celebrate this 10th edition back on-site after 2 years of remote teaching, we were glad to invite last Monday 4 alumni Mariana Soeiro (2020), Thales Menezes de Oliveira (2020), Aurélie Bonhomme (2015) and Madga Satrazani (2020) to share with our 2023 participants their experience with the school and their work in the field of . We also had the privilege to welcome Michael Doser from CERN to give a key note on Quantum Particle Detectors.

Since its creation in 2014, the European School for Instrumentation in Particle and Astroparticle Physics has welcomed 165 from 41 countries all over the world thanks to an international training collaboration of 51 lecturers led by Johann Collot which mobilizes expertise and resources from many institutions*.

Here we go again for 8 weeks of intensive lectures at the by ArchParc !

✨ Un petit pas pour l'Homme (et la Femme), un grand pour la Solidarité internationale ! ✨

Après 10 mois d'organisation et 5 mois d'accompagnement et de conférences à distance, nos 6 porteurs de projet venus d'Afrique et de France 🌍 sont enfin arrivés à Archamps pour participer à notre école à visée UHC School Lab - Accélérateur CSU ! Cette formation est le fruit d’un partenariat inédit entre l’ESI, l' Université Grenoble Alpes , la Cité de la Solidarité Internationale , la World Health Organization (WHO) et le Geneva Health Forum. Elle est soutenue par l’ Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie et associe l' Université Joseph Ki-Zerbo , l' Université de Monastir , et l' Université d'Antananarivo .

, c'est donc 6 porteurs de projets travaillant sur des problématiques de santé en Afrique, 18 étudiants de la filière pour la Santé de l' Université Grenoble Alpes et 25 intervenants (en présentiel et à distance) d'universités et d'instituts prestigieux qui se retrouvent au French Geneva Campus by ArchParc . Accompagnés par des coachs experts de Science to the Point et de l'ONG Entrepreneurs du Monde , les porteurs et étudiants ont pour mission d’accélérer leurs projets pour contribuer aux objectifs de la Couverture Santé Universelle .

Nous remercions par ailleurs notre conférencier d'aujourd'hui Jonathan Hoffmann de la Fondation Mérieux pour son intervention passionnante sur la tuberculose en Afrique.
