👩‍🏫 One of the key features of Master in DSBA is the Corporate Research Project, where students work in teams for 6 months, along with the regular classes, to solve key strategic questions posed by partner companies. This enables students to gain valuable insights, become directly operational, and boost their career prospects.

This year we had 24 projects with 19 company partners - L'Oréal, Deloitte, BNP Paribas, TRANSVALOR, Sia Partners, Deriv, Societe Generale, Verailexia, Cofidis Group, Accor, Écotable, Luxurynsight, Sanofi, Vestiaire Collective, Sienna, QuantCube Technology, MARKENER, Stuart, and Veepee.

🧐🔍 You probably encountered the words “Big Data” or “Predictive Analytics”, but what do they mean and how does it affect our day-to-day life?

We can only work with data that has been converted from its original state into a format that is more meaningful for interpretation. For example, in medical contexts, doctors make diagnoses based on observed factors, but the accuracy of such predictions relies on availability of relevant data and models.

Unfortunately, sometimes we can face a problem called dimensionality reduction. It can appear when dealing with numerous measurements without knowing their relevance to the specific case. Nevertheless, dimension reduction technique can improve accuracy in data imputation and provide freedom to analysts.

A couple of weeks ago, the DSBA M1 students participated in a Hackathon organized by Ekimetrics in their offices in Paris.

During this event, a very important topic for today's Data Scientists was discussed: Responsible AI.

The students were divided into groups that would have to come up with an integral solution for a company that needed to deploy AI solutions to improve it's Talent Acquisition processes.

Students were able to experiment with real-world biased data by analyzing the accuracy-fairness trade off as well as gaining a deeper understanding of balance needed to achieve an equitable workplace within a high-performing business.

Last month Irène Sunny, the laureate of "3M Women in Data Science" scholarship, was rewarded for her commitment and support for the promotion of women in scientific careers.

👩‍🎓 “The 3M Women in Data Science scholarship allowed me to pursue a Masters in STEM from two globally recognized institutions. The program characterized by a well-rounded curriculum, top-notch faculty, a diverse team, and an extensive alumni network will help me achieve my career goals in analytics. This scholarship not only helps me financially, it also motivates me to surpass myself in my studies to become a role model in a field where women are underrepresented”, said Irene Sunny.

It comes as no surprise to anybody that Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence are increasingly impacting our lives and our jobs.

In this article, DSBA student Yinzhe Huang talks about the integration of new technologies such as AI into companies' human resource departments. He explains how the Talent Acquisition Process has been affected by digitalization and gives 2 case studies that show how this can empower companies.

Yinzhe uses his knowledge of Data Analytics and his experience in Digital Transformation to show both the potential benefits of implementing these technologies as well as the concerns related to them and their use for Talent Acquisition processes.

Today, when artificial intelligence became an essential part of the business world, it can be advised for organizations to consider how AI impacts information governance. IG is usually referred to as the establishment of an information management policy with the goal of maximizing the value of data while minimizing costs and risks.

As data is known to be spacious and hectic, AI tools help to store and process its vast amounts making information governance crucial for ensuring data quality, addressing biases, explaining algorithms, and maintaining transparency. This means that data must comply with regulations and consider the ethical implications of AI-driven decision-making processes.

Moreover, Artificial intelligence tools can play a valuable role in information governance by assisting with tasks such as mapping and automating processes. Incorporating AI into information governance can help organizations manage data effectively and address regulatory requirements in a changing and data-rich environment.

✈️ Every year the M2 students of Master in Data Sciences and Business Analytics organize a study trip, under the guidance of the academic directors. This year, the students visited the beautiful and one of the most digital countries in the world, Estonia to learn more about its success in the digital sphere.

🌟 This experience gave the students the opportunity to discover about E-Estonia, which is a pioneering example of how technology can be used to enhance government services and improve the lives of citizens. The country’s success in digitizing 99 percent of its public services with limited resources and a small population is truly remarkable and deserving of recognition. The fascinating lecture by Carmen Raal from e-Estonia covered the history of the country's services, their cybersecurity initiatives, and how the limited talent market and poor economic scenario after Estonia's independence paved the way for them to develop a digital society and become a data-driven economy.

Students also met several companies that benefit from the growing ecosystem of Estonia:

💱They met the passionate data science and recruitment teams from Wise (formerly known as TransferWise). They learned about how their work relies heavily on data science for various business and production activities, including fincrime checks, and their data science team structures.

🤖 They found out about the autonomous delivery robots from Starship Technologies.

🐝They met Erlend Sild, founder of BugBox, who shared his vision about the future of the insect protein industry and how it can be augmented with technology.

🎓 Finally, TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia's largest technical univserity, hosted the students and shared insights about their new teaching methods, industry partnerships, and practical applications for AI in various sectors, and the university’s vital role in Estonia’s digital transformation and innovation ecosystem, which includes startup incubators and accelerators.
