🏙️ What if designing tomorrow’s city started today?

Urban innovation isn’t about predicting the future. It’s about being ready for it.

💡 Smart cities need more than sensors and dashboards. They need business models built around public value, professionals who catch weak signals before they become expensive problems, and decisions made for futures that don’t exist yet.

Climate change. AI. Digitalization. Not trends to monitor. Forces already at work.

🎯 At MSc Engineers for Smart Cities, we train engineers who don’t wait for change. They design ahead of it.

How do you keep a city’s essential services running during a major crisis? 🏙️🚨

This is one of the complex challenges our IMREDD - Université Côte d’Azur students tackled during an intensive week dedicated to urban resilience.

We had the honor of welcoming Ignasi Fontanals, a Barcelona-based expert in climate innovation and resilience, for his 10th year lecturing our international cohort (representing 12 different nationalities!).

At the core of his workshops, our students dove into:

🔹 International risk management frameworks (United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)).

🔹 Crisis simulations to maintain critical municipal operations during disasters.

🔹 The use of Artificial Intelligence to anticipate and manage cascading effects.

As Ignasi Fontanals pointed out: « I shared field lessons, and I brought back fresh ideas from students and researchers. »

A huge thank you to him for his continuous commitment to preparing the next generation of urban innovators. 🌍

Every year, Milan transforms into an open-air laboratory. 🇮🇹

Beyond furniture, Design Week is a massive stage for innovations and urban interventions. From temporary sustainable pavilions and smart public lighting to the use of bio-materials in the streets, global designers are rethinking how we interact with our urban environment. 🏢

At IMREDD, we closely monitor these international trends to fuel our vision of the sustainable city! 🚀

More than just a commute: A deep dive into the soul of our cities. 🏙️

Last week, we had the privilege of welcoming Arnd N. Bätzner for an intensive 3-day masterclass on the future of urban transportation. It wasn’t just about logistics; it was about the invisible threads that connect our society. From the electrification of buses to the sociological impact of social housing, we explored why mobility is the ultimate « holistic » discipline.

Here is a glimpse into our journey from the classroom in Nice to the cities of tomorrow.

Can you redesign a neighborhood for a +1°C world? 🌡️🏗️

That is exactly what our students are doing this semester. Tackling the redevelopment of Park Méridia in Nice, they are using Geodesign and advanced data simulation to create a resilient, mixed-use district for 12,000 future inhabitants.

It’s not just about drawing plans; it’s about validating them with data, this project is where theory meets reality.

🌊🏔️ Study hard, live well. That’s the mindset.

What does life look like after lectures at IMREDD? Living in Nice means having the freedom to choose between the mountains and the sea, finding balance through outdoor adventures, or simply enjoying the local culture.

We asked our students how they recharge, and their answers prove that location matters.
