[🇪🇺 Construire les Europes]
Stephen Bates | Sergison Bates architects, England
The lecture reflects on the theme of « Away from home » in the form of the public interior as a place of invitation and public interaction and in the form of a way of practice, working from the margins and towards an open-ended collaborative design process.
Both aspects of this theme challenge convention, either by the way they re-think archetypal typologies or in the way they redefine authorship.
Projects presented will include the KANAL Centre Pompidou project in Brussels, The MHKA competition entry in Antwerp and the Performing Arts Quarter in Leuven.
Stephen Bates co-founded in 1996 with Jonathan Sergison.
Through his work and his teaching he has explored the role of architecture at all scales, from city-making to domesticity, designing buildings that are rooted in place, engaged with the historical dimension of existing urban fabric, responsive to the challenges of environmental, economic and social sustainability.
Visiting professor notably at and at , he has been professor at .muenchen since 2009.
