The Danish open sandwiches or smørrebrød. The word literally means “butter bread.”

Smørrebrød typically consists of a slice of dense rye bread (rugbrød) topped with a variety of ingredients including: Cold roast beef or cuts or cured fish (like pickled herring or smoked salmon). Liver pâté (leverpostej) or eel. Cheese, eggs, or shrimp
garnished with pickles, crispy fried onions, horseradish and herbs, or remoulade. Enjoyed with a cold beer and a snaps!
