How it all came about...

Who hasn’t wanted to live in France at some time or another? From my first visit to a gite in Limousin, with a university pal to the varied criss-crossings of countless family holidays, I’ve always known I’d live in France one day. That day came on January 8th 2017, when I moved into Les Marchais, having bought it from my sister-in-law’s sister. I’d visited the house several times with my children, with many wonderful memories ranging from evening birthay meals on the sunny terrace to Uncle Ray’s terrifying account of The Monkey’s Paw in a thunderstorm. But becoming the owner on a freezing January day was quite different! Thanks to much input from family and friends, it rapidly became my home. Part of the plan was always to run a small B+B, and I received my first guinea-pig guests in June 2017. Since then, with the help of my semi-resident Texan, every room has been refreshed (or completely rebuilt in the case of the ground-floor bathroom - he was only supposed to “chip the bloody tiles off” and ended up sledge-hammering into the basement....). I’ve honed my catering skills and hosted many guests now - English and French, all of whom have been most kind, patient and great company. Looking forward to another season!
