🌍 A translation can be correct and still fail to communicate.

In multilingual environments, words carry more than meaning. They carry culture, history, identity, and context.

For African languages, this challenge is even more complex. Limited digital resources, language variation, and cultural nuances mean that a machine-generated translation may look accurate while missing what truly matters to the people who will read it.

Drawing from his experience as a translator and interpreter at the SADC Secretariat, Kis Henry explores the gap between AI translation and human localization in our latest blog post.

He discusses:

🎓 Kis Henry has worked in rooms where a wrong word changes everything. A rostered English-French translator and interpreter at the SADC Secretariat, certified Sworn Translator by the High Court of South Africa, and MBA holder in International Business, he brings cross-continental expertise to language practice. He trained at the University of the Witwatersrand and is currently completing his Master 2 in Technical Communication and Localisation (TCLoc) at the University of Strasbourg.

With tighter deadlines, smaller budgets, and growing pressure to automate, it can sometimes feel that way.

But in our latest blog post, Anna Marava argues the opposite: in the age of AI, strong localization project management matters more than ever.

🌍 What does the future hold for translators in the age of AI?

According to many headlines, not much.

According to experienced professionals working in the field every day, quite the opposite.

In our latest blog post, language industry expert Emma Gledhill FCIL FITI explores how the translation profession is evolving through the latest wave of technological disruption. Drawing on interviews with John Worne, CEO of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, and experienced IT translator and technical writer Zoe Green MCIL, she argues that translation is not disappearing, it is diversifying.

📍 Symposium on Usability and Design 2026 : Thank You! ✨

On April 29–30, we had the pleasure of hosting the 5th edition of the Symposium on Usability and Design, organized by the University of Strasbourg in collaboration with .

Over two inspiring days, professionals, researchers, and students came together to exchange ideas on UX/UI design, technical communication, localization, content design, and the future of these fields in a rapidly evolving digital world. 🌍

This year’s discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration, adaptability, and community-building in today’s professional landscape.

Artificial intelligence was also at the heart of many conversations. As AI continues to transform the way we work, learning how to use these tools critically and effectively is becoming an essential skill for future professionals.

A huge thank you to all our speakers for sharing their expertise and experiences.
