Happy St. Patrick‘s Day from everyone at the CRL! 🍀
🍀 Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Did you know that the patron saint of Ireland wasn’t actually Irish? He is said to have been born in the fifth century in Roman Britain. Legend has it that he was kidnapped by pirates and brought to Ireland. After experiencing a holy vision he fled, became a priest and then brought christianity to the Irish, who commemorate their patron saint on the date of his death each year, on March 17. They dress up in green and usually have a pretty merry time!
Fun Fact: According to legend, St. Patrick banished all snakes from Ireland. In actual fact he wouldn’t have needed to do that. According to researchers, Ireland didn’t have any snakes, even back then. But symbolically, it’s about Patrick banishing the “heathen culture” from the island according to the wishes of the church. 🐍
