Dr. Katrin Prager, jointly with teaching team members David Flood, Irmine Roshem and Flurina Wartmann, delivered a 3-day block course on Team Leadership and Management to our MSc Land Economy and MSc Sustainability students to introduce concepts of how successful teams work and how to manage a team. Students were given the opportunity to puts these into practice via the innovative approach of 'discovery learning'.

🎉Fantastic News! Human Geography at Aberdeen has been ranked 1st in the UK for overall student satisfaction, with a score of 100%. 🥇

The annual NSS asks final-year students across the UK about a range of factors related to their academic experience, including teaching, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, and academic support.

We are proud of this outstanding result and are looking forward to continue our successful teaching and support in the next term.

David Haro and Matteo Spagnolo recently led a group of PhD students to the Italian Alps, where they learned various physical geography field techniques and fully enjoyed the spectacular glacial settings (and Italian Gelato!), while also understanding the fragility of these alpine environments currently under climate change threat and anthropogenic pressure.

MSc Sustainability Transitions students are helping the University to become more sustainable.

Our MSc students are engaging with catering services to review and redevelop the University of Aberdeen's sustainable food policy
by taking part in a catering workshop to review and redevelop the policy, addressing various issues such as menus and ingredients, waste and plastics, and communication of sustainable practices.

Fully funded PhD opportunity to explore intergenerational communication

This interdisciplinary opportunity will be supervised by experts from Psychology, Human Geography and Sociology, this project is one of three supported by the Dunhill Medical Trust’s multiple PhD calls in ageing research.

Dmitri Mauquoy, Clemens von Scheffer & Tom Theurer are back from their travels to the Falkland Islands where they have spent two weeks sampling dry peatlands of the archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean in order to better understand the future of Northern Hemisphere peatlands and their carbon accumulation.

In order to understand how carbon accumulation in Northern Hemisphere peatlands may likely change in the future, it is useful to look at how carbon accumulation varies in modern day 'extreme' ('dry') peatlands located in the Falkland Islands.

What a week for our MSc Sustainability Transitions students! While the students have already started working on their individual projects/dissertations, the programme continues to be filled with various additional learning opportunities for the future sustainability leaders.

Huge congratulations to K Gow, Artist and Aberdeen Geography postgraduate researcher specialising in islands, who has been shortlisted for the prestigious John Byrne Award for her installation 'Remote / Far away' which challenges external perceptions of Scotland's offshore islands.

The work addresses questions around how we define places as remote or peripheral and was installed for six months during 2021 on an abandoned signpost at Feolin Ferry on Jura, where Gow lives.
