A series of exchange visits for staff and students is taking place between the Department of Mathematics at Aberystwyth and the newly established Eskişehir Technical University in Türkiye, focusing on research interests in wave propagation in deformable solids. More information below:

Llongyfarchiadau mawr i Kathleen Hinton Pritchard ar dderbyn dau enwebiad (yn y categoriau myfyriwr-wirfoddolwr a cynrychiolydd academaidd y flwyddyn) ar gyfer Gwobrau Addysgu, Dysgu a Phrofiad Myfyrwyr Undeb Aber. Llongyfarchiadau hefyd i Dr Adam Vellender a Dr Rob Douglas ar gael eu henwebu yn y categoriau Pencampwr Hygyrchedd a Chynhwysiant a Darlithydd y Flwyddyn yn ôl eu trefn. Rydym yn falch hefyd i gael ein enwebu fel Adran y Flwyddyn.

Congratulations to Kathleen Hinton Pritchard on receiving two nominations (in the student-volunteer and academic representative of the year categories) for the Undeb Aber Teaching, Learning and Student Experience Awards. Congratulations also to Dr Adam Vellender and Dr Rob Douglas for being nominated in the categories of Champion of Accessibility and Inclusion and Lecturer of the Year, respectively. We are also proud to be nominated as Department of the Year.

We have two alumni students giving short talks as part of CareerFest. Please see below for more details.

This week is CareerFest. On Friday, 1-2pm in MP-0.10, there will be short talks by two maths graduates, one from 2020 and one from last year, with time for questions afterwards. The Maths department would like to thank the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) for kindly funding this event.

Georgie Massen (graduated 2020) is doing postdoctoral work at Imperial College London, with a focus on women's health, following a PhD researching multiple organ fibrosis. James Anstey (graduated last year), is working as a Finance Graduate for Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council.

They will each offer a 15-minute talk focusing on
• A description of their current role and responsibilities.
• Some insight into the recruitment process.
• An insight into how their maths degree has prepared them for working life.
The talks will be followed by a question and answer session.
Do come along and find out about the paths that two of our graduates have taken since graduating.

Final-year students: help is required to enjoy sweet treats! Please come along to the NSS coffee and cake afternoon at 3pm tomorrow (Thursday) in the foyer of the Maths and Physics building

Llongyfarchiadau mawr i’n holl raddedigion newydd. Roedd yn braf iawn eich croesawu chi a’ch teuleuoedd i’n seremoni graddio'r wythnos ddiwethaf. Llongyfarchiadau arbennig hefyd i’r rhai ohonoch wnaeth ennill ein gwobrau adrannol am eich llwyddiannau!

Huge congratulations to all our new graduates. It was a pleasure to welcome you all and your families to our graduation ceremony last week. Many congratulations also to those who were awarded some of our departmental prizes for your achievements!

Llongyfarchiadau i’n cyn-fyfyriwr MMath, Nathan Robertshaw, ar dderbyn yr ail wobr yng nghystadleuaeth Eiriolwr Lles Ifanc, yng Ngwobrau Heddychwyr Ifanc blynyddol Canolfan Materion Rhyngwladol Cymru yn Eisteddfod Rhyngwladol Llangollen yn ddiweddar. Da iawn, Nathan!

Congratulations to former MMath student Nathan Robershaw, who was recently awarded second prize for the Young Wellbeing Advocate, in the Welsh Centre for International Affairs' annual Young Peacemakers Awards at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. Da iawn, Nathan!
