Commercial horticulture businesses across Northern Ireland are invited to attend an online information event about the Innovation Driver and Support Horticulture Pilot Scheme.
The scheme is part of DAERA’s Sustainable Agriculture Programme and aims to support businesses investing in innovative crops, technologies and production systems that are new to Northern Ireland.

Katelynn Henderson is currently studying our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Food Technology and Science. She is undertaking a 12-week placement with Kettyle Irish Foods, Lisnaskea.

Working within the Quality team, Katelynn has been developing her knowledge and practical skills in a busy food manufacturing environment. As part of a small but dedicated team, she has gained valuable experience across a variety of quality related activities, helping her build a strong understanding of industry standards and procedures.

Through her role, she is gaining firsthand experience of how various systems are used help ensure product safety, quality, and compliance. The placement is also allowing her to apply the knowledge gained through her studies in a real-world industry setting.

Katelynn said: “I am really enjoying my placement with Kettyle Irish Foods. I like the variety of tasks involved in the role and have learned a lot about the importance of traceability, label checks, and specifications in maintaining quality standards. Being part of a small team has given me the opportunity to get involved in different aspects of the department and develop my confidence and skills.”

Following her placement, Katelynn will return to complete the final year of her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Food Technology and Science, taking with her a wealth of practical experience and industry knowledge.

Thinking about a career in the food industry? Leah Montgomery's journey shows where a CAFRE qualification and determination can take you.

Leah from Drumahoe secured a graduate position with Lynas Foodservice following the completion of her BSc (Hons) Food degree and has quickly become an integral part of the team as a Quality Assurance Co-ordinator.

Based primarily at Causeway Prime, Lynas' meat packing and cutting facility, Leah plays a key role in ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality are maintained. Her responsibilities include leading internal and external audits, managing supplier approvals and traceability systems, overseeing the site's quality management system, delivering food safety training, conducting microbiological sampling and carrying out a range of quality assurance checks. Leah has embraced the responsibility and variety that comes with working in the food industry.

Leah's experience highlights the exciting and diverse career opportunities available within the food sector.
