Our teaching enables students to develop, integrate and apply their knowledge at the interface of scientific discovery and clinical practice. We have excellent research and teaching links with

the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, one of the largest in the UK, and a world-leading cancer research facility, the North West Cancer Research Institute, enabling students to experience cutting-edge teaching and research. Our undergraduate programmes:

Biomedical Science BSc (Hons) (3 years) (IBMS Accredited)
Biomedical Science with Foundation year BSc (Hons) (4 years) (IBMS Accredited)
Medical Sciences BMedSci (Hons) (3 years)
Medical Sciences with Foundation Year BMedSci (Hons) (4 years)
Pharmacology BSc (Hons) (3 years)
Pharmacology with Foundation year BSc (Hons) (4 years)
Medicine (BMBS) (5 years)
Graduate entry to medicine (BMBS) (4 years)

Under a feeder stream agreement, on successful completion of the BMed Sci students are eligible to apply for the four-year graduate entry to medicine programme. Please note to apply for this programme you will need to fulfil all their additional criteria which includes but not limited to specific ordinary and advanced level 2 and 3 achievement and successful completion of an entrance exam. We also offer a range of postgraduate taught courses including those aimed at doctors, health professionals and professions allied to medicine, as well as NHS-funded programmes including Physician Associate Studies. Many programmes offer multiple exit points to suit individual circumstances. These programmes are grounded in modern medical practice and taught by staff that often hold joint appointments with the NHS. This gives our students an excellent level of exposure to practising clinicians and a real insight into current practice and probably explains why our graduates are highly regarded by major employers. Take a look at our website, follow us on Twitter or get in touch to find out more. We hope that this information has helped in learning more about what Bangor has to offer and that you're interested in applying to study here. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about our Academic Schools, subjects or university life in general.

Last week, North Wales Medical School (NWMS), in collaboration with colleagues from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), delivered an expanded Mock Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) teaching session centred on the cancer patient journey.

Building on the success of last yearโ€™s pilot (which involved medical students) this yearโ€™s event brought together students from programmes across the North Wales Medical School, including Medicine, Biomedical Science, Medical Science, Pharmacology and Physician Associate studies. This reflects the continued growth of NWMS and its commitment to integrated, interprofessional education.

The session followed a single patient with advanced colorectal cancer through a series of staged MDT discussions, mirroring real-world clinical decision-making, with students engaging with key points along the cancer pathway โ€” from diagnosis and staging, through treatment planning, to complications and end-of-life care.

Between MDT discussions, short teaching sessions delivered by clinical and scientific specialists reinforced key concepts, including cancer genetics, systemic therapies, metastatic disease, and palliative care. This structure was designed to support consolidation of knowledge while demonstrating how it is applied in practice.

A central focus of the session was the importance of collaboration in modern healthcare. The MDT format highlights how clinicians, biomedical scientists, and allied health professionals contribute distinct but complementary expertise to patient care โ€” reflecting the principles of precision oncology and personalised medicine.

Importantly, the session also recognised the growing relevance of cancer care across all areas of healthcare. With 1 in 2 people affected by cancer during their lifetime, and more people living longer with and beyond cancer than ever before, an understanding of cancer care is essential for all healthcare professionals โ€” regardless of the career path they go on to take within the NHS or beyond.

The involvement of BCUHB clinicians alongside NWMS academic staff ensured the session was grounded in current clinical practice, offering students an authentic and high-fidelity learning experience.

As NWMS continues to grow, initiatives such as this demonstrate increasing opportunities for cross-disciplinary teaching and collaboration. Expanding the Mock MDT to include multiple programmes represents an important step in preparing students for the realities of team-based healthcare delivery.

Yr wythnos diwethaf, cynhaliodd Ysgol Feddygol Gogledd Cymru, mewn cydweithrediad รข chydweithwyr o Fwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr, sesiwn addysgu estynedig gyda ffug dรฎm amlddisgyblaethol a oedd yn canolbwyntio ar daith claf yn dioddef o ganser.

Gan adeiladu ar lwyddiant digwyddiad treialu y llynedd (a oedd yn cynnwys myfyrwyr meddygaeth) daeth digwyddiad eleni รข myfyrwyr ynghyd o raglenni ar draws Ysgol Feddygol Gogledd Cymru, gan gynnwys Meddygaeth, Gwyddorau Biofeddygol, Gwyddorau Meddygol, Ffarmacoleg ac astudiaethau Cydymaith Meddyg. Mae hyn yn adlewyrchu twf parhaus Ysgol Feddygol Gogledd Cymru a'i hymrwymiad i addysg integredig, ryngbroffesiynol.

Dilynodd y sesiwn glaf unigol รข chanser datblygedig y colon a'r rhefr trwy gyfres o drafodaethau tรฎm amlddisgyblaethol fesul cam, gan adlewyrchu gwneud penderfyniadau clinigol yn y byd go iawn. Bu myfyrwyr yn ymgysylltu yn ystod pwyntiau allweddol ar hyd llwybr y canser - o wneud diagnosis a nodiโ€™r cam, hyd at gynllunio triniaeth, ymdrin รข chymhlethdodau a gofal diwedd oes.

Rhwng trafodaethauโ€™r tรฎm amlddisgyblaethol, atgyfnerthodd sesiynau addysgu byr a gyflwynwyd gan arbenigwyr clinigol a gwyddonol gysyniadau allweddol, gan gynnwys geneteg canser, therapรฏau systemig, clefyd metastatig a gofal lliniarol. Cynlluniwyd y strwythur hwn i gefnogiโ€™r broses o gydgrynhoi gwybodaeth wrth ddangos sut mae'n cael ei gymhwyso'n ymarferol.

Un o brif amcanion y sesiwn oedd pwysigrwydd cydweithio mewn gofal iechyd modern. Mae fformat y tรฎm amlddisgyblaethol yn amlygu sut mae clinigwyr, gwyddonwyr biofeddygol a gweithwyr proffesiynol perthynol i iechyd yn cyfrannu arbenigedd gwahanol ond cyflenwol at ofal cleifion โ€” gan adlewyrchu egwyddorion oncoleg fanwl a meddygaeth wediโ€™i phersonoli.

Yn bwysig ddigon, cydnabu'r sesiwn hefyd berthnasedd cynyddol gofal canser ar draws pob maes gofal iechyd. Gydag 1 o bob 2 o bobl yn cael eu heffeithio gan ganser yn ystod eu hoes, a mwy o bobl yn byw'n hirach gyda chanser ac ar ei รดl nag erioed o'r blaen, mae dealltwriaeth o ofal canser yn hanfodol i bob gweithiwr gofal iechyd proffesiynol - ni waeth beth fo'r llwybr gyrfa y maent yn mynd ymlaen i'w ddilyn yn y GIG neu y tu hwnt.

Sicrhaodd cyfranogiad clinigwyr Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr, ochr yn ochr รข staff academaidd Ysgol Feddygol Gogledd Cymru, fod y sesiwn wedi'i seilio ar ymarfer clinigol cyfredol, gan gynnig profiad dysgu tra chywir syโ€™n adlewyrchuโ€™r byd go iawn i fyfyrwyr.

Wrth i Ysgol Feddygol Gogledd Cymru barhau i dyfu, mae mentrau fel hyn yn dangos cyfleoedd cynyddol ar gyfer addysgu a chydweithio trawsddisgyblaethol. Mae ehangu'r sesiwn ffug dรฎm amlddisgyblaethol i gynnwys mwy nag un rhaglen yn gam pwysig wrth baratoi myfyrwyr ar gyfer realiti darparu gofal iechyd mewn tรฎm.
