John Healey, Professor of Forest Sciences in Bangor University’s School of Environmental and Natural Sciences, has been appointed as a member of the UK Government’s Expert Committee on Forest Science (ECFS).
The ECFS provides independent, expert advice and assurance on the quality of science and evidence provided by the government research agency Forest Research and other organisations. ECFS also advises on the formulation and delivery of forest science research strategy between the Forestry Commission, UK and devolved governments
When you study Bangor University you are learning from the best infomed and best connected academics. We've been teaching it for over 100 years and are still at the forefront of UK forest research. Still time to join us! We offer degrees and masters courses. (Postgrad ones can even be done on-line!)
John says, “I am honoured to have been appointed to the ECFS. We face huge challenges in improving the resilience of our forests in the context of multiple threats including climate change, pests, pathogens and competing land use priorities. At the same time, we need to increase the capacity of both forests and agroforestry to mitigate climate change, loss of biodiversity and the growing needs for many products and services required by society. The ECFS has an important role in promoting the strongest possible contribution that forest science research in the UK can make to addressing these challenges. I am looking forward to participating in this work, and the opportunity for close collaboration with the excellent scientists in Forest Research that this will entail.” Bangor University International Institute of Chartered Foresters Royal Forestry Society - RFS Forestry England Woodland Trust Cymru
