🌍 NEW RESOURCE FOR EDUCATORS
Big Ideas of Education for Sustainability – Progression Framework
How do we ensure sustainability is not treated as an “add-on”, but as a core, progressive part of education?

This new framework from CCEA Sustainable Futures shows how sustainability concepts can build progressively across the curriculum, helping pupils develop deeper understanding over time—not just one off lessons. 💡🌱

🎓 Featuring expert insight from Dr Karen Kerr (Director of Initial Teacher Education (PGCE), a key contributor to the work. Dr Kerr reminds us why sustainability belongs at the heart of learning:

“We’re actually a Global Society, and we can have an impact on people we don’t even know, by some of the choices that we make. So, I think it’s really important that we are ensuring that are young people are properly literate in the issues that our planet is facing.”
— Dr Karen Kerr

🤝 Continuing our commitment to education in challenging contexts 🤝

The School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work, alongside St Mary’s University College, is proud to continue supporting Gazan teachers in partnership with Forward Thinking, the Shaf Centre (Egypt) and the Ministry of Education in Palestine.

The initiative began in August 2025 when a team from QUB delivered in-person training in Cairo followed by online webinars in 2026 and a recent three day hybrid professional learning programme in Cairo. 🤝The team’s work has focused on trauma informed pedagogy, adaptive teaching, and effective learning in resource limited settings.

💬 “The programme responds directly to prolonged disruption to education, trauma experienced by both children and teachers, and the need for approaches that are emotionally attuned, inclusive and adaptable,” shared Professor Joanne Hughes.
💬 Lesley Emerson added: “It is a privilege to work with such committed teachers and support them as they endeavour to provide educational and emotional stability for the children of Gaza.”

👏 Thank you to all colleagues and partners involved in this important work.
