CHAMPIONS TO BE CROWNED

The Thompsons/NISA Champion Dairy Cow of the Northern Show Circuit, will start with the first qualifier at Ballymena Show on Saturday 30th May.

May 30th marks the start of the local show season, and with it the first of the qualifying rounds for Northern Ireland’s premier dairy competition, the Thompsons/Northern Ireland Shows Association - NISA Dairy Cow Championship. To celebrate the launch of ‘Show Season’, Thompsons’ welcomed representatives from NISA and Antrim Show Committee to their York Road site, to be shown around their market leading mill.

Speaking at the launch of the 2026 championship, Thompsons’ Area Sales Manager Jonathan McCaughan said, “Thompsons are delighted to sponsor the NI Dairy Cow Championship once again for 2026. Northern Ireland punches well above its weight when it comes to our dairy sector, boasting some of the top dairy cows and leading dairy herds in the UK and Ireland. The Dairy Championship is a great way to showcase the hard work and commitment that breeders devote to their cows, year in, year out. The new Junior Championship award has been a great addition to the competition, and we look forward to its success continuing in 2026. Thompsons would like to wish all exhibitors a very enjoyable and successful show season.”

The championship is open to all breeds of dairy cows, both pedigree and non-pedigree, and each exhibitor can qualify a maximum of four cows. A generous prize fund is on offer once again this year for the top five cows in the final line-up, plus
Junior Champion, Reserve Junior Champion, Exhibitor-Bred Champion and Best Udder winners. Every cow exhibited at the final will also receive a Thompsons’ feed voucher.

Thompsons' would like to wish all committees and exhibitors and safe and successful show season 😎💪☺

Although the Poultry Pavilion was under some restrictions this year, we still love to celebrate, what is a hugely popular part of Balmoral Show and we got some great pics to profile the lovely birds that were on display. Our Poultry Specialist, Kenny McConkey and Kathryn Gibson a Formulator from our Technical Team, were both on hand to help present these beautiful birds.

Thanks as always to the Poultry Committee at the show who remain dedicated to supporting the Poultry Pavilion at the show.

Great to welcome the team from Thompsons Feeding Innovation to the new GEA AI Hub for Dairy Farming in Belfast.

The Thompson's team had a fantastic time diving deep into the latest feeding practices and best strategies. Declan Casey and Roy Clarke from GEA led an insightful training session.

The session was training Thompson’s team on DairyPlan and DairyNet. The training was to help farmers to maximise the benefits from our system, increase yield and feed efficiencies.

Proud to be advancing the industry through collaboration.

On the first day of Balmoral Show 2026, we love supporting the beef classes, with prizes presented to several different breeds of cattle, including Aberdeen Angus, Charolais, British Blonde and British Blues and Limousin. With Junior Champions, prizewinning bulls and Overall Champions, it is always an action packed day. Here are our photos captured by David A Scott Photography for you to like, share and save to your own camera roll, as part of your memories of a great show.
