🎓✨ Celebrating inspiring graduate journeys at UWTSD Birmingham ✨🎓

We continue to share some of the most inspiring stories from our graduates — celebrating their achievements, resilience, and the incredible journeys that have brought them to graduation. Every graduate has a unique story, and we are proud to highlight the dedication and determination behind their success.

Today, we celebrate the inspiring story of Vilma Ibe, who has graduated with a First Class BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care degree from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Birmingham campus. 🎓👏

With more than 30 years of experience working in health and social care, supporting children, families and vulnerable adults, Vilma returned to education as a mature student to pursue her ambitions.

Her journey was not without challenges. As a neurodivergent learner with dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD, Vilma overcame barriers and self-doubt to achieve outstanding results and prove that determination and the right support can help turn ambitions into reality.

During her studies, Vilma explored areas including mental health, psychology, public health and research methods. Her dissertation examined healthcare provision for people living with schizophrenia in the UK, strengthening her commitment to evidence-based practice and supporting vulnerable communities.

Alongside her academic achievements, Vilma also contributed to the student experience as a Student Representative, supporting and representing her fellow students.

Vilma is now continuing her journey through the MA Social Work programme at the University of Birmingham, completing a placement within Children’s Services and working towards her ambition of becoming a forensic social worker.

💬 “It is never too late to pursue your ambitions, embrace new opportunities, and achieve your goals.” — Vilma Ibe

Vilma’s story is a wonderful example of resilience, lifelong learning and the power of believing in yourself.

Congratulations, Vilma, on this fantastic achievement! We wish you every success in the next chapter of your journey. 👏🎓

🌿 Plastic Free July Continues... What sustainability choices can you make? 🌿

🥦 A plastic-free diet is all about choosing foods with little or no plastic packaging, like fresh produce , and reusable containers 🛍️♻️

🌍It's better for the planet and often healthier & tastier too!

Simple swaps like bringing your own bags or choosing glass over plastic can make a big difference.💚

🎓✨ Celebrating Student Research in Birmingham! ✨🎓

On 13 July, our postgraduate students came together at Vincent Albert House for the second Birmingham Students’ Research Conference (BSRC26) to share their research, ideas and achievements.

From AI and mental health to NHS recruitment, sustainability, FinTech, fraud detection and much more, the conference showcased the incredible diversity and ambition of our students’ research. 🌍🔬

🏆 Congratulations to the joint winners of the poster competition:

👏 Carmen Prodan (MBA)

👏 Mahamadfaraz Belim, Neelkumar Patel, Asha Pati, Ridhhi Patel and Ishaben Patel (MSc Public Health & Social Care)

It was especially inspiring to see students who presented at last year’s conference as undergraduates return to share their research as MA and MSc students. We also celebrated a DBA student who has continued their research journey from MSc to doctoral study. 🎓

A huge well done to all our students and presenters! Your passion, progress and research achievements are truly inspiring. 👏🎉

We look forward to the next Birmingham Students’ Research Conference!
