As The Church of England prepares for the lectionary year of Mark, The Queen’s Foundation welcomed 52 Readers/Licensed Lay Ministers from The Church of England - Birmingham for a study morning on Mark’s Gospel, equipping them for their regular preaching and teaching over the coming year.

Led by Queen’s tutor Dr Dave Allen, the session offered an engaging and accessible exploration of Mark’s understanding of what it means to follow Jesus, and the “tensions on the Way”, as we are called to take up our cross and follow him.

The morning was warmly received, with Readers’ enthusiastic feedback reflecting the value of the stimulating teaching in helping them engage afresh with Mark’s Gospel and consider its significance for their preaching and teaching.

The Asian Theology Forum (ATF) is a monthly space for conversation hosted by the Queen’s Foundation, Birmingham. It brings together academics, practitioners, students, and others interested in theology to reflect on issues of faiths and cultures, as well as mission and ministry, shaped by Asian and Asian diaspora contexts. The forum encourages open, critical, constructive, and supportive dialogue, welcoming both established voices and those new to theological and ministerial engagement.

At Queen's, we are blessed with leafy grounds nestled in the heart of a bustling city.

Some of our resident students have created a veg patch team and are busy preparing a plot to plant vegetables in the spring.

As Jason from the team said: It's a real camaraderie and a mix of ages, ethnicities, and denominations.

We look forward to seeing what grows - both in the garden and in the friendships formed along the way.

The Centre for Black theology is delighted to have started the first class for the postgraduate course this term with Biblical scholar Rev Dr Oral Thomas leading the teaching for 'Race, Identity and Nation'. It is part of our postgraduate Black theology studies with students from various Pentecostal churches, studying alongside students from the Church of England and the Methodist Church exploring together, the diverse intersections of race, nation, and identity through the lens of Black and womanist theology.

It was wonderful to welcome clergy from a number of dioceses to the first session of our new programme: Overseas Clergy Training, supporting Anglican Communion clergy to serve in The Church of England.

With tutor Carlton Turner, the group explored a range of subjects including Anglican identity and the Church of England, the established church (responsibilities and opportunities), Parish boundaries and “the cure of souls”.

At the next training session we look forward to welcoming Revd Canon Guy Hewitt, Director of the Church of England Racial Justice Unit. The november session will focus on seasonal celebrations, community expectations and the public role and responsibility of the parish church.
