This year the theme of World Environment Day is: A Global Call for Climate Action🌱

At Bishop Burton College we are passionate about taking climate action, making sure our students have safe adapted learning environments and the skills they will need to deal with future environmental challenges, whatever their discipline. On campus our grounds equipment run on solar energy, we have reduced our waste by 8% over the last 12 months and we have saved up to 2.5 million L of water by installing new washroom technologies all helping to build our resilience to energy volatility and contributing to a reduction in our resource footprint.

Our Butchery apprentices have been preparing for the Dalziel's 100th Anniversary Battle of the Butchers competition🏆

For the competition, the apprentices will be given a knuckle of beef, a leg of lamb, two chickens and a loin of pork. They will then have two hours to prepare and present their products, with the best overall display being chosen as the winner.

In the practice sessions, the apprentices were given two chickens, kindly donated by Soanes Poultry and loins of pork, donated by Laverack's, along with knuckles of beef to work with. The apprentices were lucky enough to have Rob and Bryce from Verstegen Sauces come in to support the session. They gave a demonstration of what they would do for the competition, judged the apprentices' displays and offered useful feedback, guidance and ideas throughout the day. They also donated all the sauces and seasonings used during the session which was a great way for the apprentices to experiment with different flavours!

Overall, it was a really valuable practice session and a great opportunity for the apprentices to develop their skills, confidence and creativity ahead of the competition!

Our T Level Agriculture students are having a great time in South Africa so far☀️

Their first couple of days involved beautiful views and avocado and veggie farming, learning the techniques used by the local farmers. They also visited the largest citrus packing plant and a large dairy farm which was interesting to see how it differs from farms in the UK.

We can't wait to see what else they get up to!
