Why do some women conform more to stereotypical gender norms while others do not? A new study by Dr Uta Bolt, Assistant Professor in Economics delves into this question by examining essays written by 11-year-old girls back in 1969. Using machine learning the research links these norms to later life outcomes. This insight is crucial in promoting gender equality and creating a more equitable society.

โ€œI was drawn to this study because gender conformity significantly influences women's decisions about work, yet there is a lack of data as it is hard to measure. I wanted to bridge this gap.โ€ said Uta.
