Day 22 of Prepare me Summer Programme… today was the last day! A large group of students and their families all got together for games and a picnic. And what a day ☀️ we got for it! It was amazing to see you all for a really fun day, lots of laughter and good vibes. And massive thank you to ScrapAntics for keeping the youngsters having fun this morning!

I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in the programme this year: those that attended activities, our partners and all the staff involved. Without you this would not of been possible.

To all new or returning D&A students it’s getting close to you starting your studies and I want to wish you all the best for your futures!

Day 21 of the Prepare Me summer programme today took us to Tayport. First our group of 20 students walked 4 miles from Dundee to tayport over the Tay road bridge. Then we boarded the TayMara for a beautiful afternoon of dolphin spotting on the Tay 🐬 we didn’t spot any today unfortunately… only a seal 🦭

Day 20 of Prepare Me Summer Programme had us back Rhynd Fitness for our second last visit of the programme

Everything is starting to come together now as we focused on getting our hands on the barbells today to do bench press, having learned correct technique with dumbbells

For our final session we will bring squats, deadlifts and presses altogether for one big medley session - you won’t want to miss it!

Day 19 of the Prepare Me Summer Programme 2022 was a fun day for all the family at Cupar Deer Centre. This was a great opportunity for our students to bring along their kids for a lovely day out visiting the animals…This trip was fully funded with free transport provided so a great way to entertain the family as we near the end of the summer holidays 🤩

P.s if you are visiting Cupar Deer centre Monday-Friday it is now free for everyone! But I hear it’s super busy so book fast

Day 18 of the Prepare Me Summer Programme and this time our students tried clay shooting. This sport involves discipline, focus and a calm body and mind. Watching our students confidence build throughout the session was amazing, and despite it being a totally new experience we had some real sharp shooters in the group. This activity is great for helping build a sense of pride, resilience and confidence. Our group also rallied round and cheered each other on, building a great team through the day.

Day 17 of the Prepare Me Summer Programme was hosted tonight by roller derby coach Ruby who has been a partner with the college for the last year. Todays session was an open one for all abilities to try. We had complete first timers to those turning up with their own skates. Such a popular session and great fun if your looking for a fun way to learn new skills whilst being active.

Still plenty spaces available!!

If you’ve been on any activity on the summer programme or none at all… it’s doesn’t matter!

If you’re a new or returning D&A student make some time next Thursday 11th August for our “Family funday on campus” with our partners ScrapAntics who will host a 2 hour play session for kids and families. Feel free to bring non-D&A family members 😀.. don’t worry though it’s not just for the kids! There will be plenty going on like Rabble games, rounders, dogdeball, and other classic games for the adults too!

And from 12-2pm you can enjoy some food, maybe take part in some more games or choose just to chill out and chat!

**Join us on Thursday 11th August 10am-2pm at Gardyne Campus for our family friendly fun day**

This is to wrap up the summer programme and every current or soon to be D&A students and their families are very welcome too…. No matter what campus you are from get involved!

Mini bus travel will be provided if you require from Arbroath campus

ScrapAntics will be with us from 10am-12pm to facilitate live outdoor play sessions. So make sure you get along for this and hang around for some food afterwards

So whether you have done all of the summer programme or none of it… make sure you head along to our family friendly day to meet us all? Have fun and get a little bit familiar with the college before you start for real!

Day 16 of Prepare Me Summer Programme took us back to Rhynd Fitness today to continue with ”Physical Friday” which is now into week 4 of 6

Today we focused on deadlift and squat technique. We will be teaching the main fundamentals and putting them into practice over the next few weeks.

We still have places available to join in every Friday 10.30-11.30am. Transport is provided free of charge.

Day 15 of Prepare Me Summer programme took us out to the garden to pick some fruit and vegetables 🥦🥕🥗

This is one session I was very excited about and it did not disappoint!

Today we got to let loose our inner green fingers and pick our own veg at the Kingsway Allotment.

This is a subject I am very passionate about teaching our young people about quality nutritious foods, how to prepare them and take pride in growing your own.

Lynne (our horticulture lecturer) was fantastic in education the group on how to properly pick and prepare a range of different types of veg that students could then take home with them and eat that night !

Not a bad haul for an hours picking! We will be eating potatoes, onions and courgette in my house for the next few weeks! 🥔 🥒 🧅

Day 14 of Prepare Me Summer programme was all about outdoor family fun as we visited 🌳 near Forfar

It’s a farm, a nature reserve and a tea room and a really great way to spend the day with the family.

We had such a lovely relaxed day wandering around the nature reserve, lochs, wetlands spotting all the different wild flower and bird species. And it was all FREE to visit!
