For those with a deep interest in the country house: a brilliant one-year programme (or two years part-time) directed by Adrian Tinniswood, Britain's leading historian of the subject. Based in London (St James's and Bloomsbury), the programme provides the opportunity to pursue original research on a topic of your own choice on one of the many aspects of the history, social life, or contemporary management of the country house.

Studies can range from Cardinal Wolsey’s country house at Hampton Court to the cultural impact of ‘Downton Abbey’.

One-to-one supervision is complemented by a brilliant series of evening seminars, meeting in the elegant surroundings of a Pall Mall club, each followed by dinner.

Speakers in the coming year include:
Simon Thurley on Tudor royal houses
Clive Aslet on the houses of Lutyens
Lucy Worsley on Artisan Mannerism
The Duchess of Argyll on Inveraray Castle
Adrian Tinniswood on the country house before the Great War • and much more.

Scholarships are available (worth a third of total fees), as well as low-interest government loans for MAs by research. For details:

For those with a passion for the magnificent furniture, porcelain, silver, and tapestries made for the palaces and country houses of Britain and France in the 18th and 19th centuries: a brilliant one-year taught programme (or two years part-time) on all aspects of this cultural legacy. It is offered in London (Bloomsbury) as part of The University of Buckingham's Graduate Programmes in London, in association with The Wallace Collection.

There is no finer training for those wishing to pursue careers in museums and country houses, or for collectors who simply wish better to appreciate their own collections.

Based in central London, it draws upon the outstanding collections of the nearby Wallace Collection and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
