Learning, listening and growing together…

This week, we were delighted to welcome the brilliant team from CHICKENSHED and Chickenshed Education to MPAA for an insightful workshop exploring neurodiversity, inclusion and accessibility in the performing arts.

Chickenshed is renowned for its pioneering approach to inclusive theatre, bringing together people of all backgrounds and abilities to create, learn and perform.

Through open conversations, shared experiences and practical insights, our team explored how we can better understand and support neurodivergent individuals, challenge assumptions and create a more inclusive learning environment.

A huge thank you to Dave Carey and the Chickenshed team for sharing their knowledge, experiences and passion so generously.

We’re looking forward to continuing the conversation and exploring opportunities to work together!

The person matters as much as the performer.

On World Mental Health Day, we’re recognising the personal journey that sits alongside professional training.

A degree is a time of change… finding your independence, forming new relationships and discovering who you want to become. In performing arts, it also means learning to navigate feedback, expectations and the vulnerability of putting yourself into your work.

At MPAA, our year tutors and in-house pastoral care offer individual support throughout that journey. Sometimes that starts with a conversation, someone noticing you’re having a difficult week, or knowing who you can turn to.

Alongside this, we help students find support and resources through organisations including BAPAM and One Dance UK, and develop their professional connections through Equity and Spotlight.

You don’t have to wait until everything feels overwhelming to ask for support. Your wellbeing matters throughout your training… in the studio and beyond.
