It is fantastic to see the University of Cambridge Vet School colleagues featured in the University of Cambridge's latest look at the future of food. This piece highlights the "Great Challenge" of our century - feeding a growing population without destroying the natural systems that sustain us.

Our colleagues Professor Dan Tucker and Dr Lucy Weinert provide critical research to the article on how intensive livestock farming drives zoonotic disease and antibiotic resistance. 👇🏽

What do potatoes, pigs and pollinators have in common?

They’re all vital in feeding the growing human population, but modern intensive farming has created problems we can no longer ignore.

From declining biodiversity to the rise of pests and pathogens, agriculture has pushed the natural systems we depend on out of kilter.

Across the University, researchers are trying to find ways to produce enough healthy food for the world without the collateral damage.

The veterinary landscape is changing fast, and to ensure the next generation of vets is ready for the real world, we need the perspective of those living it every day.

As we review and develop our Veterinary Medicine curriculum, we’re keen to hear directly from those working in the profession today. If you’re a vet in practice or an employer, your insight will help ensure our graduates are prepared for the realities of modern veterinary work.

We’d be grateful if you could complete our anonymous survey, covering areas such as clinical preparedness, professional skills, and workplace readiness.

📣 We are delighted to be offering a new Senior Clinical Training Scholarship in Small Animal Medicine.

This is a three-year scholarship starting from June 2026, where you will receive training in all aspects of small animal medicine, including cardiology, oncology, medical neurology, diagnostic imaging and clinical pathology, and is approved by the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

An applicant must be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons or hold a veterinary degree qualifying her/him for membership. Completion of an appropriate internship or a minimum of two years' experience in small animal practice is essential.

We offer in return a great opportunity to further your skills and experience with the added benefits of working for the University of Cambridge!

📢 We have an exciting opportunity for a Radiographer to join our team of friendly radiographers, on a part time basis, in our busy Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This post is fixed-term for 12 months or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.

Applicants should be a Registered Veterinary Nurse, or a qualified Diagnostic Radiographer holding a BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography, or other relevant degree/qualification.

The role holder will be responsible for producing high quality clinical diagnostic images of small and large animals. This is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills to complement your existing knowledge and experience.
