This World Cystic Fibrosis Day (8 September), we're highlighting the impact of CF Stories: In Your Own Words.
It’s a Cardiff Met collaboration that’s helping people living with cystic fibrosis share their experiences and communicate more openly with healthcare professionals.
Through a series of online workshops, participants were given the opportunity to tell their stories in their own words, creating powerful digital resources that provide valuable insight into the realities of living with a lifelong condition.
The project brought together researchers, healthcare professionals, people with cystic fibrosis, and Cardiff School of Art & Design illustration graduates who created original artwork to accompany a number of the stories.
At its heart, the project is about empowering people to share their lived experiences, strengthening understanding between patients and clinicians, and demonstrating how storytelling and creative practice can support better healthcare conversations.
One participant said: "Putting my story into words helped me understand how I truly felt about certain moments and gave me a sense of validation that I didn’t realise I needed."
This collaboration shows the power of combining creativity, research, and lived experience to improve healthcare communication and amplify patient voices.
