As Wales’ national conservatoire and a dynamic arts centre, we train more than 900 actors, musicians, designers, technicians and arts managers from over 40 countries, training them for a sustainable career in the arts as

Based in the capital city Cardiff, our students are immersed in a live industry environment, working across drama, music and design from the moment they arrive. Our students push the boundaries of what the arts can do, collaborating and creating new work across a range of professional and community settings. As Wales’ largest producing house, the College attracts leading international artists, providing opportunities integral to students’ training and an opportunity to learn directly from some of the world's most renowned performers. The College’s events calendar encompasses over 500 public performances and exhibitions every year from classical to the contemporary, including orchestral concerts, drama, opera, puppetry and musical theatre. Our dedicated teachers have a wealth of professional and industry experience. The College collaborates with high-profile arts organisations, including BBC, Welsh National Opera and a wide range of visiting artists and directors, to ensure that the unique vocational nature of our training reflects current industry practice. Composition student Nina Martin uses her art to highlight issues of climate change: For , she has created a World Environment Art exhibition, with design by fellow student Riah Betti, featuring eight student artists’ creative responses to the climate crisis, and in celebration of nature.

Funded by the RWCMD Students' Union Team and supported by REPCO, the College’s entrepreneurial initiative, the exhibition is open to the public in the RWCMD foyer until 7th June.

Nina has also curated the ‘Listen to the Earth’ concert, bringing together student soloists, chamber ensembles from across the College, with original work from the composition department, to share music about nature and climate change, including original compositions from the composition department.

You can find our Stage Managers working in theatres across the country from Shakespeare’s Globe to The Nottingham Playhouse.

Congrats to our graduates shortlisted for the Stage Management Association Excellence Awards 2026 today, including Bláithín McReynolds, Kali Shih and Louise Morrison, who are nominated for the Antonia Collins Award for Early Career Stage Manager, named in honour of our late Stage Management colleague, Antonia.

Also nominated with their teams for the Clear-Com SMA Team Excellence Award are ASMs Briony Kirkman and Olwen Barnes-Archer with the ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’ team, DSM Judith Volk with the ‘Mother Goose and the Manningtree Witch’ team, the ‘Rock and Roll Man’ team with ASM Ellie Smallbone, and the ‘Christmas Carol Goes Wrong’ team with SM Geoffrey Field, who is also shortlisted for the Imagine Theatre Outstanding Individual Stage Manager Award.

‘Being able to facilitate a warmup or a bit of section leading… It's brilliant. I've fallen in love with community music.’

Our students aren’t just supporting the Good Vibrations Chorus, they’re gaining real experience in how music can transform lives and the importance of its role in wellbeing.

This free group is open to all, with a specific focus for people with Parkinson’s and their family/carers. The Chorus meet every Thursday from 12.30 - 2pm in the RWCMD foyer. All welcome - no need to book.

Inspired by Idris Davies’s poetry about the 1926 miners’ strike, ‘The Angry Summer’ brings together students across the College in a multi-disciplinary project combining puppetry, film and visual storytelling.

Blending specialist craft skills with community engagement, the work has toured to the Victoria and Albert Museum, schools and venues across Wales.

Now in its second decade, NEW is RWCMD’s annual festival of new writing, bringing together some of the UK’s leading directors and writers to develop ambitious new work with full rehearsal time, design budgets, technical support and in-house expertise.

Working alongside the College’s Richard Burton Company of actors, designers and stage managers, they collaborate to create ambitious, provocative new work, bringing diverse voices to the stage, and training its students as creatives.

All four plays premiere at the College and Sherman Theatre before transferring to New Diorama Theatre, London:
