UWTSD Youth Work

UWTSD Youth Work Welcome to the homepage for UWTSD's BA & MA Youth Work and Social Education programmes. UWTSD has been training and educating Youth Workers for many years.

Follow us for news about the wonderful Youth Work that is happening within our programmes, across Wales, and beyond! We are passionate about creating thoughtful, creative and reflective practitioners! Youth Work is a practice that supports young people’s personal, social, and educational development through informal learning, mentoring, and community engagement. It takes place in diverse settings—

youth centres, schools, online platforms, and communities—and is led by trained youth workers who build trusting relationships with young people. Youth work helps young people build confidence, develop life skills, and navigate challenges such as mental health, peer pressure, and identity. It promotes inclusion, participation, and empowerment, especially for marginalized or at-risk youth. By investing in youth work, societies foster resilience, active citizenship, and future leaders.

Cafwyd noson wych yn Canolfan S4C Yr Egin nos Lun ar gyfer digwyddiad dathlu 'Bod yn Gymraeg', lle rhannodd grwpiau cymunedol o bob rhan o Gaerfyrddin beth mae'n ei olygu i fod yn Gymraeg heddiw. Llongyfarchiadau i Dr.M'z am arddangos eu cyfranogiad yn y prosiect, a roddodd gyfle i bobl ifanc fynegi beth mae bod yn Gymraeg yn ei olygu trwy gelf. Da iawn i'n myfyriwr Lefel 6, Leo, am ei anerchiad ardderchog i'r gynulleidfa ac am greu draig Gymreig wych!

A great evening was had in Yr Egin on Monday for the ‘Bod yn Gymraeg’ celebration event, where community groups from across Carmarthen shared their thoughts on what it means to be Welsh today. Congratulations to Dr M’z for showcasing their involvement in the project, which gave young people the opportunity to express what being Welsh means through art. A huge well done to our Level 6 student, Leo, for his excellent address to the audience and for creating a wonderful Welsh dragon!

For many children and young people, Halloween can be an excitingly, spooky time of year! For others who are neurodiverse or struggle with anxiety, the unknown can be a source of worry and stress.

Family Action have shared some helpful hints to better support CYP who may not be looking forward to this holiday. One of the key things to remember – ‘Don’t feel you have to celebrate Halloween at all, but if you do, keep things simple. Empower your young person by encouraging them to say “no”, if they do not wish to join in activities. A short but positive Halloween experience will be better than an hours-long experience that ends with a meltdown.’ A pumpkin spiced latte, with a cosy movie at home sounds just as fun to us!

Wishing everyone a fun and safe Halloween this year! 🖤

I lawer o blant a phobl ifanc, gall Calan Gaeaf fod yn gyfnod cyffrous ac arswydus o'r flwyddyn! I eraill sy'n niwroamrywiol neu'n cael trafferth gyda phryder, gall yr anhysbys fod yn ffynhonnell pryder a straen.

Mae Family Action wedi rhannu rhai awgrymiadau defnyddiol i gefnogi plant a phobl ifanc yn well nad ydynt efallai'n edrych ymlaen at y gwyliau hyn. Un o'r pethau allweddol i'w cofio - 'Peidiwch â theimlo bod yn rhaid i chi ddathlu Calan Gaeaf o gwbl, ond os ydych chi, cadwch bethau'n syml. Grymuswch eich person ifanc trwy eu hannog i ddweud "na", os nad ydyn nhw am ymuno â gweithgareddau. Bydd profiad Calan Gaeaf byr ond cadarnhaol yn well na phrofiad awr o hyd sy'n gorffen gyda chwalfa.' Mae latte sbeislyd pwmpen, gyda ffilm glyd gartref, yr un mor hwyl i ni!

💚❤️💛 Black History Month 2025 – Standing Firm in Power and Pride 💚❤️💛

UWTSD is proud to support Black History Month, which is celebrated in October in the UK. The purpose of Black History Month is to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black people, which have been historically underrepresented in mainstream history.

The black History Month UK 2025 theme is “Standing Firm in Power and Pride,” a powerful tribute to the resilience, strength, and unwavering commitment to progress that defines the Black community across the globe. This year, the theme highlights the profound contributions made by Black people be leaders, activists, or pioneers who have shaped history, while also looking towards a future of continued empowerment, unity, and growth.

💚❤️💛 Mis Hanes Pobl Dduon 2025 – Sefyll yn Gadarn mewn Grym a Balchder 💚❤️💛

Mae Prifysgol Cymru Technoleg yn falch o gefnogi Mis Hanes Pobl Dduon, a ddathlwyd ym mis Hydref yn y DU. Pwrpas Mis Hanes Pobl Dduon yw cydnabod a dathlu cyflawniadau a chyfraniadau pobl Dduon, sydd wedi cael eu tangynrychioli’n hanesyddol mewn hanes prif ffrwd.

Thema Mis Hanes Pobl Dduon y DU 2025 yw “Sefyll yn Gadarn mewn Grym a Balchder,” teyrnged bwerus i’r gwydnwch, y cryfder, a’r ymrwymiad diysgog i gynnydd sy’n diffinio’r gymuned Dduon ledled y byd. Eleni, mae’r thema’n tynnu sylw at y cyfraniadau dwys a wnaed gan bobl Dduon, boed yn arweinwyr, yn ymgyrchwyr, neu’n arloeswyr sydd wedi llunio hanes, tra hefyd yn edrych tuag at ddyfodol o rymuso, undod a thwf parhaus.

At the start of this month, around 60 children and young people who have been supported by Barnardo’s across Wales attended the Senedd to meet with politicians and decision makers and sharing their views on what they feel is important for future generations across Wales.

Barnardo’s Cymru has launched their own manifesto, introducing its calls for the next Welsh Government. The Barnardo’s Cymru manifesto outlines a set of commitments which it is urging all political parties to adopt. This includes practical action needed to:

❌ End child poverty in Wales.

👨‍👩‍👦 Support families to give their children the best possible life chances.

😊 Keep children safe from harm.

❤️ Support children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

🌻 Transform the support and opportunities for children in and leaving care.

✅Ensure all unaccompanied children have access to support, services, and protection.

Ar ddechrau'r mis hwn, mynychodd tua 60 o blant a phobl ifanc sydd wedi cael eu cefnogi gan Barnardo's ledled Cymru y Senedd i gyfarfod â gwleidyddion a llunwyr penderfyniadau a rhannu eu barn ar yr hyn y maent yn ei deimlo sy'n bwysig i genedlaethau'r dyfodol ledled Cymru.

Mae Barnardo's Cymru wedi lansio eu maniffesto eu hunain, gan gyflwyno ei alwadau ar gyfer Llywodraeth nesaf Cymru. Mae maniffesto Barnardo's Cymru yn amlinellu set o ymrwymiadau y mae'n annog pob plaid wleidyddol i'w mabwysiadu. Mae hyn yn cynnwys camau ymarferol sydd eu hangen i:

❌ Dod â thlodi plant i ben yng Nghymru.

👨‍👩‍👦 Cefnogi teuluoedd i roi'r cyfleoedd bywyd gorau posibl i'w plant.

😊 Cadw plant yn ddiogel rhag niwed.

❤️ Cefnogi iechyd meddwl a lles plant a phobl ifanc.

🌻 Trawsnewid y gefnogaeth a'r cyfleoedd i blant sydd mewn gofal ac yn gadael gofal.

✅Sicrhau bod gan bob plentyn ar ei ben ei hun fynediad at gefnogaeth, gwasanaethau ac amddiffyniad.
