Our Story

The South Asian Student's Society (SASS) was established in 2011 and has developed into one of biggest societies at The University of Sussex.

We do not have a membership fee but encourage people to like our page on Facebook where we have over 1000 followers so everyone can keep up to date with what we are doing. SASS organises an array of events throughout the year, from smaller scale movie nights and asian food socials to renting out the whole of the Attenborough Centre for Diwali and annually taking over Library Square on campus for Holi (the BIGGEST event on campus!!). We want to create events where international students can feel at home and home students can learn more about South Asian culture.

We promote acceptance and inclusion and not just the promotion of South Asian culture. Protection of rights will only happen with acceptance and ending the oblivion present in society. Hate is spread because of misinformation and oblivion and we therefore want to promote and teach inclusiveness from a cultural perspective.
