BA Journalism student Naomi Greenaway chatted to us about her mentoring experience at CfJ.
"My mentor is none other than the brilliant Sky News presenter Gillian Joseph. She is nurturing, understanding and encourages me to do my best. I am very fortunate to have someone with her expertise guide me into a career in journalism. My aim is to become a TV news anchor and I know I am in the best hands, Gillian has already been through the things I have, and she is willing to show me the things they have learnt."

The Centre for Journalism this year joined the John Schofield Trust (JST) Fellowship 12-month mentoring programme. We caught up with a few BA Journalism students to hear how the programme is going.

https://ow.ly/FBx550OMWvI

The JST Fellowship pairs students with a mentor based on their professional interests with the aim of students coming a step closer to fulfilling their ambitions. The Senior Fellow mentor helps students navigate areas of the news industry they may not be familiar with and supports them in gaining experience to take them to the next step in their careers. Students also get access to masterclasses led by industry professionals on a range of news media-related topics and get to use the ‘Fellow’ title for life.

And the ‘Scoop of the Year’ goes to Bartholomew Hall 👏

Bartholomew has won a prestigious National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) award at the Awards for Excellence, held at Twickenham Stadium today.

The judges said the story – for an investigative report on the cause of a fire in Whitstable – ‘highlighted an issue which really mattered to communities involved’.

Bartholomew was a Year in Journalism student and now works as a reporter at whilst completing his degree at Kent.

Bartholomew Hall said: “If it wasn’t for everything I learned at the CFJ, from following every lead, keeping in touch with contacts and the value of FoIs [Freedom of Information requests] then this story just wouldn’t have happened.

“A year ago I wouldn’t have even considered myself a journalist and just getting myself stuck in to all the opportunities has been life-changing.”

Congratulations Bartholomew, and to Emma Ogao and Rut Urios Vidal who were all shortlisted for awards.

Congratulations to three CfJ former students shortlisted for prestigious awards from the National Council for the Training of Journalists NCTJ.

Rut Urios, nominee said 'I feel so honoured and grateful that the NCTJ has nominated me, especially because my data story is about diversity and the lack of it, which is something that means a lot to me'

Students at the CfJ get the opportunity to apply for internships KMTV during their studies and benefit from opportunities to work there in front of and behind the camera.
