University of Chichester Dance Dance at Chichester offers a challenging experience and the opportunity to study Contemporary Dance

The understanding of dance within a wider perspective will enable you to develop your skills to the full potential with a variety of career outcomes such as dance performance, choreographer in your own company, dance teacher, community dance artist or arts administrator. Choreography is the central focus of study here at Chichester; developing the creative, imaginative and interpersonal skills tha

t will help you to realise your dance potential. Body in Performance (Dance Technique) represents a quarter of the programme for single honours and major students and provides daily technical practice. There are a wealth of specialist tutors whose backgrounds range from highly respected performance companies to practitioners in New Media, Dance Movement Therapy and Dance Journalism

EXAMINING DANCES (year 1)

Semester 2 brought Cunningham’s ideas from page to practice, as our first year Dance students explored an embodied understanding of his work through performance and creative investigation.
Building on the theoretical foundations established in Semester One, students engaged with Cunningham’s distinctive movement language, chance procedures, spatial awareness, and relationship to music — developing both technical precision and artistic curiosity along the way. This study showcases their commitment to experimentation, performance presence, and contemporary dance practice.
