Our campus bird nest boxes are buzzing with life right now, as tiny chicks are being fed and cared for by their busy parents!

Did you know that we have over 80 bird nest boxes on campus? Although not all of them are occupied every year, it is important not to disturb these nest boxes during the nesting season, as they might indeed contain little miracles like these blue tit chicks. 💙💙💙

Happy World Otter Day 🦦💚
Did you know we’re lucky enough to have otters calling our campus home?

These playful and elusive mammals are a fantastic sign of a healthy ecosystem, thriving where waterways are clean and habitats are well cared for. Their presence is a reminder of why protecting and enhancing biodiversity on campus matters.
From quiet riverbanks to thriving green spaces, every action we take to support nature helps create places where wildlife can flourish.

Through collaborative partnerships, we’re delivering progress against our Environmental Sustainability Strategy goal to realise ecology and biodiversity net gain by identifying and monitoring biodiversity on campus, implementing habitat creation and enhancement projects.

Feeding birds isn’t always helpful — especially in summer and autumn 🐦

When birds gather at feeders, diseases like trichomonosis can spread more easily, contributing to declines in some species.

🚫 On campus: please follow University guidance and don’t feed wildlife at any time of year.

Want to help birds at home? Small changes can make a big difference:
✅ Feed seasonally
✅ Feed safely

By adjusting how and when we feed birds, we can help reduce the spread of disease and support healthier populations 💚

From page to basket 👀

Our basket weaving workshop at the Nook brought circular economy principles to life - turning old magazines into something practical and beautiful through creative reuse. A reminder that waste is often just a resource waiting for a second life.

Thanks to everyone who came and had fun with us. 🫶

Warwick is going low carbon 🤯

The University of Warwick Computer Science building has completed a significant refurbishment project focused on reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency.

Funded through the Salix Finance Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, the project replaced gas boilers with a new air source heat pump system, delivering fossil fuel-free heating to the building.

Additional upgrades, including triple-glazed windows and enhanced roof and wall insulation, will help reduce heat loss, lower energy demand, and improve comfort for building users.

This project demonstrates how existing campus buildings can be successfully retrofitted to support Warwick’s wider decarbonisation ambitions while maintaining high-quality spaces for staff and students.

Listen to Nazneen Naveed's breakdown of what happened.🌍⚡
