S-s-speed date with a reptile!🐍

This Reptile Awareness Day, we're introducing you to our scaly neighbours!

All six native British reptile species have legal protection in the UK.

Reptiles help control pest populations and are important indicators of a healthy ecosystem. We've been running amphibian and reptile surveys on campus since 2024, and we've recorded grass snakes!

Grass snakes are non-venomous and harmless to humans. If you spot one, give it space and let it disappear into the undergrowth.

As temperatures drop, reptiles seek sheltered spots to hibernate. Help them stay cosy by leaving log piles and other potential hiding places undisturbed through the colder months.

Found a shed snake skin? You can help researchers learn more about reptile populations by carefully collecting it and submitting it to the Reptile Genebank.

What happens when you give things one more chance before they go in the bin?

This year, our Donation Drive has once again shown just how much can be achieved when people come together to reduce waste and keep useful items in circulation. ♻️

- Over 8 tonnes of items were sorted, packed and cleaned with the help of 67 volunteers, preventing them from going to waste.
- That represents 35 tonnes of CO₂e avoided – equivalent to driving around the world 5.2 times.
- 1,491 people visited our pay-as-you-feel Kitchen Kit Market, giving everyday items a second life while raising £6,351 for local charity Carriers of Hope.

None of this happens without the time, effort and enthusiasm of our volunteers and colleagues across the University of Warwick who help make the Donation Drive possible.

A brilliant example of what we can achieve by keeping things in use for longer, reducing waste and making a positive difference beyond campus.

Happy International Bat Night! 🦇

Did you know that International Bat Night is celebrated every year at the end of August? Today, we‘re shining a spotlight on some of the smallest residents of our campus.

Have you ever wondered what those ”strange-looking bird boxes“ are on the trees around campus? We have over 60 bat boxes that provide endangered bats with safe places to roost and raise their young. During recent checks by our licensed ecological consultants, we found these adorably grumpy soprano pipistrelles, the smallest bats in the UK (alongside the common pipistrelle), weighing just 3 to 8 grammes!

Our amazing volunteers picked up nearly 10kg of litter around the Sports Hub! 🗑️🌿

Keeping our campus clean helps protect local wildlife and create a healthier environment for everyone. It was fantastic to see so many familiar and new faces joining us!

Want to get involved? Our litter picks take place on the third Wednesday of every month.
