Leadership is often overcomplicated, but for Neil Heslop OBE (MBA 1992) and 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award winner, it comes down to something much simpler: people, money and technology - with people always coming first.

His perspective is refreshingly clear. Leadership isn’t about control. It’s about creating the conditions for others to succeed.

Neil’s work and career reflect a consistency of purpose, one that is shaped by belief in people, strengthened through collaboration, and driven by a determination to turn leadership into lasting social change.

At a time when expectations of leadership are evolving, his advice is to know yourself, invest in relationships and run towards challenges.

What happens when impatience becomes a strategy?

For Antony Jenkins CBE (MBA 1988, Honorary DSc 2015) and our 2026 Entrepreneur Alumni Award winner, his frustration with the limits of banking technology led to building something fundamentally better.

His idea was simple, but bold: don’t just improve the technology, make it ten times better – hence the name, 10x Banking. The goal was audacious, but it provided clarity of purpose, and eventually, a platform to deliver it.

In this interview, he highlights a simple truth about entrepreneurship: strength of conviction and clarity of purpose matter more than short-term results.

For Rachel Harris (Exec MBA 2022), and recipient of the 2026 Excellence in Achievement Award for Recent Graduates, accounting isn’t about numbers - it’s about confidence.

In her interview, she reframes finance as something far more human, a tool that helps people understand their options, make decisions, and build something meaningful.

Rachel’s work opens finance up to people who might never have seen themselves in that space, and what stands out most is her honesty about the journey: that taking an unconventional path doesn’t hold you back, it can make your story stronger.

A reminder that expertise isn’t just about mastery. It’s about making things accessible for others.

What does it really mean to give back? For Adam Cox (MBA 2011) our 2026 Alumni Service Award winner, it’s not about grand gestures or visible impact. It’s about what he calls “a series of quiet and often unseen contracts.” Those unseen moments where trust is built, confidence shifts, and someone decides what comes next.

Perhaps that’s what defines the Cranfield community at its best? More than ambition, a willingness to stand alongside others as they figure it out.

Add nostalgia to the mix; the kebab van, Mitchell Hall, the late-night debates, and the alumni community becomes something much deeper than professional networking.
