Ammbi Ngangila Muir studying Bachelor of Education secondary majoring in visual arts at ECU.
Art work displayed at for Revealed.
Ammbi’s art practice explores her Country and culture, building on stories and artworks from her late grandmother. “When I was little, Nanna would take me out bush and teach me about Country”, Ammbi says “Sadly, she passed away when I was still young, however as a great cultural leader she left behind a legacy of arts and stories”. Inspired by her grandmother’s painting about the Seven Sisters, Ammbi created a series of seven raku fired bowls which were first exhibited in Revealed, but are now part of the WA Museum Collection. She continues to explore her heritage through her grandmother’s legacy, guided by her father Kado Muir.

Anzac Day, 25 April, is an important day for all Australians. It’s when we remember the sacrifice and contribution made defending Australia throughout history, and today.

Indigenous men and women have served alongside other Australians in all wars since before Federation. Despite the injustices Indigenous people were experiencing in Australia, they served side-by-side with non-Indigenous soldiers, forming friendships and relying on each other for survival. Indigenous men and women continue to serve proudly in Australia’s defence force today. Lest we forget Noongar Ode translated by Proff. Len Collard

On 13 February 2008 13 years ago, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd publically apologised, on behalf of the Federal Government, to the Stolen Generations –
The Stolen Generations refers to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities as children. It is an important time to reflect on how generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have been affected, and will continue to be affected, by the past policies of the Australian Government and the ongoing impacts of this on the mental health and wellbeing of Indigenous Australians. This years NAIDOC theme is: Get up, Stand up, Show up.
We need to come together as a united nation to ensure all our lives are enriched and better for our future. Change makers

CONGRATULATIONS to Kawlija Brahim for selling this Coolamon!

Kawlija Brahim is a Warumungu person of Jurnkkurakurr (Tennant Creek). Kawlija is studying Psychology at the University of Western Australia.

Kawlija has designed this Coolamon to represent their home town of Jurnkkurakurr, or Tennant Creek, in the Northern Territory. The blue is the creek that gives the town its name, surrounded by the dusty red hills of the main townsite.
