🧪🔬 3KL Science Week! 👃✨

Humans are able to recognise thousands of different smells, and our sense of smell can trigger many different emotions — from alerting us to danger to bringing enjoyment through pleasant scents.

3KL thoroughly enjoyed exploring a variety of smells using small covered pots containing different scented objects. The children showed fantastic communication skills as they discussed and described their likes and dislikes while investigating each scent.

A fun and engaging way to learn about the amazing human senses! 🌟

We’re so lucky at College to have a fantastic range of bikes and trikes for our students to enjoy. With the weather getting better, students in 3GM and 3FB have been getting outside and making the most of them!
It’s been wonderful to see students building confidence, developing new skills, and having lots of fun along the way. 😊

The students experimented with a variety of objects, including different foods, and enjoyed investigating how materials can produce different noises and vibrations. A fun and hands-on way to explore science through sound! 🎶🔍

🍦 Science has never tasted so good!
Students in 3GM and 3FB kicked off Science Week with a fun, hands-on experiment—making their very own ice cream! Using ice and salt to lower the temperature, they froze a mixture of milk, sugar, and vanilla while exploring scientific processes in action. Results were mixed, but the smiles said it all—definitely an activity they’d love to try again! 😄

As part of their science unit on teeth and digestion, students in 3GM and 3FB made their very own homemade toothpaste using a variety of kitchen items. They explored what goes into keeping our teeth clean while learning about the important role teeth play in breaking down food.
From mixing ingredients to testing their creations, it was a fun and engaging way to connect science to everyday life. Students had mixed reactions to their homemade toothpaste including 'Nope. I am NOT trying that' and This is better than the stuff at home!'

We were delighted to welcome the Barclays Bank van to school, where their team delivered an engaging and informative session for our students on scams and fraud.

The talk provided practical advice on how to stay safe online, recognise potential scams, and protect personal information — essential knowledge for young people navigating today’s digital world. Our students found the session incredibly insightful and helpful.

A big thank you to theBarclays UK team for taking the time to visit us and share such important information in such an accessible and engaging way. 👏

Today as part of Mental Health Awareness, staff were treated to a free drink and cake, which meant the coffee shop was busier than ever — serving around FOUR TIMES our normal number of customers! 🍰☕
The students showed incredible teamwork, resilience, and professionalism under pressure. They stayed positive, worked hard, supported each other, and kept the coffee shop running brilliantly throughout the busy day. We could not be prouder of how well they coped with such a huge challenge.
A special thank you also goes to Mr Pritchard for being an extra helping hand and supporting the team during such a busy service. ⭐
Well done everyone — you should all be very proud of yourselves! 💛

For Science Week, 4JM have been learning all about the senses! 👃🧠

The children took part in a fun challenge where they had to identify different smells while wearing blindfolds. Most of them discovered that it was much harder to recognise things using only their sense of smell without the help of sight too!

A fantastic activity that helped us explore how our senses work together. 🌟
