Some of our Yorkshire Rose College students recently had the opportunity to visit Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI), led by Emma Shaheen, Director of Communications and Engagement. 🙌

During the visit, students explored how the Convo Video Relay Service (VRS) can support Deaf people in accessing communication within healthcare settings.

It was fantastic to see some of our students growing in confidence and independently using the Convo service to communicate with staff. They experienced first-hand how technology can help break down communication barriers that many BSL users face in everyday life.

A huge thank you to Emma Shaheen and the team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for supporting this visit and helping our students learn more about communication access in healthcare environments.👏

Three Deaf role models from the world of acting, cooking and sport have signed up to be ambassadors for The Carr Fenton Foundation.🎉

Actor Charly Arrowsmith, chef Scott Garthwaite, and cricketer Umesh Valjee, have all supported the charity previously and have renewed their commitment to be ambassadors for the next two years.

Alexis Johnson, chief executive of The Carr Fenton Foundation, said: “We are thrilled that Charly, Scott and Umesh have all agreed to continue in their role as ambassadors for our charity."

We were delighted to welcome South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue for a focus group with our Yorkshire Rose College students and Doncaster School for Deaf Children pupils.

The session was extremely positive and engaging. Our young people were enthusiastic in sharing their thoughts, experiences, and ideas, providing valuable feedback on the booklet currently being developed by South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service. Their contributions will help ensure the resource is accessible, meaningful, and relevant to Deaf children and young people across South Yorkshire.

We'd like to congratulate one of our Yorkshire Rose College students, who won the competition at our summer fair to name our new The Carr Fenton Foundation mascot.

We're delighted to announce that the bear's name is Watson! 🎉
