Orange Heritage Trip, 2nd May 2026 – Dan Winter’s House and Sloan’s House Museum
An early start this morning with breakfast in our Orange Hall, prepared and kindly donated by The Thirsty Herd. The boys were very well looked after and enjoyed hot dogs and toasties before setting off for the day ahead.
Onward to Loughgall, where we visited Dan Winter’s House, a unique and historic setting and the very place where the Orange Institution was first formed. It was a special occasion to hold our monthly meeting there. A new member was initiated, and the Worshipful Master presented Bro McCoubrey with his Past Master’s certificate and medal. The Worshipful District Master also presented lodge mallets from County Down Junior Orange. Special thanks to JWDM Jonathan Bready for his assistance.
During our time in Loughgall, we also briefly visited the former Loughgall RUC station, now the Ulster Special Constabulary Museum, where members heard about the history of the site and its significance.
We then concluded our morning with a visit to Sloan’s House Museum, a beautifully preserved centre of Orange heritage, offering a real insight into the history, traditions and legacy of the Institution through its exhibits and storytelling.
Finally, sincere thanks to Ballykine LOL 659 for providing transport for the trip.
A terrific outing for the boys, built on friendship, fellowship, faith and heritage.
