Outdoor learning can have a huge impact on children’s confidence, wellbeing and development.

Spending time outdoors encourages creativity, communication, resilience and problem solving, while helping children build a stronger connection with nature. It can also support mental wellbeing and create more engaging, hands-on learning experiences.

The Forest and Outdoor Learning Award at SRUC Barony is designed for teachers, nursery practitioners and anyone passionate about outdoor education. Students develop practical skills and the confidence to lead meaningful outdoor learning experiences.

Applications for the October start are now open 👉 https://buff.ly/yMxqvIs

Last week we had a sunny day to plant our under film maize trial in the student plot field. Beckie from Corteva Agriscience supplied the seed and recorded the trial and Ewan from Drew Watson Agri kindly supplied the drill and expertise to plant it.

We shall monitor its growth over the summer and next intake of students will get involved in its harvest.

It's World Bee Day. Bees play a vital role in our ecosystems, helping to pollinate plants, support biodiversity and contribute to food production across the world. Protecting pollinators and their habitats has never been more important.

The visit to Sam Patterson (tattie Sam) was our last planned visit of HNC Specialised Farming Systems for a reason, so Sam could show us the best side of the job, planting Tatties in the field in the sunshine.

His son Samuel talked us through the business and his staff explained, as well as demonstrated how the different machines worked. Hayley even fancied a go herself. Samuel gave a great talk but nothing beats seeing it all in action.
