We’re excited to share that Elissa Lee of the Interior & Environmental Design Class of 2025 of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee, won the Craft & Making Award at the (IE) National Student Awards 2025.

These awards shine a spotlight on the achievements of undergraduate Interior programmes across the UK and Ireland, showcasing the exceptional work produced by students.

The winners were revealed at the awards event in Clerkenwell. All entries were exhibited at the MillerKnoll showroom, before embarking on a year-long tour across various locations hosted by IE members.

Elissa’s winning project, ‘Re-collection’, is a furniture collection inspired by the idiosyncrasies within a series of inherited objects.

During the research stage of the project, individuals were interviewed about memories surrounding their own inherited objects, from a cricket bat to a cribbage board. These interviews directly influenced a series of sculptural objects called ‘Idiosyncra-studies,’ exploring material, motion and human interaction.

The development process included the building of a public installation called 'Take an Idiosyncra-seat.' Utilising the duality of a pair of chairs, members of the public were inspired to take a seat and share insights and memories relating to inherited furniture.

The outcome of the project is an abstraction of the intricate relationships between humans and our cherished objects. It incorporates elements of existing furniture and delicate details, celebrating tangible and intangible idiosyncrasies.

Fantastic work Elissa – many congratulations!

Many of our Interior & Environmental Design students (both completing and progressing) were shortlisted and longlisted across the various categories in the awards. Well done to you all! You can view their submissions on the Interior Educators website alongside Elissa’s award-winning work.
